tion fold me not long since that he didn't

fnito.
Alim tut everybody ia familiar with ‘he
•cannon old mosquito which infect* the
vbole country throughout the warm aea-
p*
They come early, some time* in great
■ambers, and stay late and need n" des
cription.
Ah to name* thin should all be left to
tbr scientist. ,
The bite of the common mosqui'o in au-
•oyiug. and where they exist m great
•umbers might poison sufficient to pro
duce ferer.
There is also a mosquito almost double
the Nice of the emumou speeiex, mostly
found in low lands and swamps, Thi<
mosquito i* very persistent in biting and
•suatly stops only when he is kilted.
The bite is somewhat painful, I suppose
•wing to his size. They, too, exist
ttirojglniul the warm season.
There is also a rather small nioaqUito,
jet black in color and has large probo-
ris, small wings, and not numerous in
this section of the country.
There is n very 'small mosquito not
much larger thun a gnat and being very
few «re only seen by close observation.
The writer has seen only one of
bright yellow color. Thia mosquito is of
small sire, and probably very few in this
ountry.
We come now perhaps to the most
dangerous mosquito in the country.
Thia species of mosquito never makes
his appearance before the mrnth of Aug-
ast, usually about September but contin-
aes, as all others do, until destroyed by
cold weather.
He is of gray or speckled color, of medi
um size, long legs, slender wings, is v<
artive and makes but little hoise.
They may be found in the homes,
the woodland or in the swamps and
much more in evidence iu duy time thun
at night.
The bite of this mosquito is m
ful than others mentioned. As a rule
they do not go in great nun^ers. They
being very active and quiet, \nly
are sufficient to cause considerable annoy
ance. After the mosquito has made hi:
appearance the most successful way l'
com hut him is h.v screening. A gentle
man said to uie the other day, "I hava
good screens and yet I have mosquitoes
tat my house. They must crawl through
the screens.”
In this connection I wish to say thut
t mosquito does not crawl like a fly. He
Ufvcr passes through an opening which
he cannot tly through. Therefore, my
dear readers, if-you have mosquitoes in
your room you may be sure they got
there by wing power. Many house keep
ers do not know that they are harboring
mosquitos, perhaps for months in their
rooms. Once a mosquito is inside lie
has no cause to leave unless run out at
might. He takes uls fill of blood and re
tires to some dark corner or to some dark
. colored garment or hat hanging on the
wall, or nmybc under the bed, there to
await the coming of another night to en
joy another feast of your life blood.
Much speculation lias been from time to
time over the origination of the "Wig-
gler" commonly called "wiggle tails’*
which hatches the mosquito.
On* of our prominent insurance com
panies asserts that the mosquito lays the
egg that produces the wiggle taila but
such statement W perfectly erroneous In
the first place, If Miss or Mrs. "Skeetei *
mere to alight upon the water for the pn»-
jwsc of laying eggs or for any other pur
pose, she would forth with find a "water-
grave," as n mosquito can neither itwim
nor fly with wet wings. Neither dees the
