There was quite a serious acci
dent on the Georgia Pacific last Fri
day near Bremen. The cab on
west bound freight, ran off and a
colored passenger jumped off and
was caught under the cab. Got one
of hrs legs cut entirely oft’ from hi
body. He is not expected to live,
which Will be another suit for the
railroads to contend w ith.
There is to he a big sale and ex
cursion on the oth instant to Ked-
den, on the Coosa river, which is
128 miles west of Atlanta. The sale
will be managed by 3Ir. T. A. Fri
erson and Col. J. S. James, of course.
Miss Lula Howell, daughter of
3fr. H. P. Howell, who once lived
near here, was drowned in Sweet
water the 24th of November.

Dr. Slaughter’s fine colt is afflic
ted very strangely. She seems to
have lost all use of her self, some-

sing her very tenderly, as he prizes
her very highly.
Tom Tolbert refused +‘2(M> cash for
his fine colt, “Bird,” which is a half
brother to Dr. Slaughter’s. S. C.
Candler sold his colt, also a half sis
ter to the others mentioned, to an
Atlanta man for quite a handsome
sum. She was only 19 months old,
and made very good time for her
age and training.

Our town is steadily and solidly
growing. Wo have twentv-two
stores here now, sixteen doing a
general mercantile business, two
hardware, two millinery and two
drug stores.
Villa Rica has t wo as good hotels
as any town.of her size in Georgia.
We regret very much to give up

writer, he was clear, forcible and
incisive, always outspoken and
fearless in contending for what he
believed to be the right. He was
well-known in east Alabama as a
journalist, and his editorials were
often copied by the press of the
state.
He met death without fear, being
conscious that his end was near.
He said a day or two before he died,
that if it were not for bis wife and
child, on account of bis suffering,
he would prefer to die. He also
said that his peace had been made
with God, and that through faith in
the liiood of our Lord and Saviour
Jesus Christ, he felt that his sins
had been forgiven.
The decease leaves a wife and
child, who were with him in his last
moments, having arrived the day
before, from Edwardsville. His
brother, Judge T. J. Burton, also ar-

consequently we have a very quiet
little town.
