Running a Paper.
The following is from the
Dalton Citizen, one of the best
weekly papers in the state :
“It was Bob Toombs, if we
mistake not, who was the author
of the famous saying. “If you
don’t like it pore it back in the
jug.” What he was talking
about need not here be expressed
“Most people do this very
thing with every IhiDg else ex
cept a newspaper, but with a
newspaper everybody seems to
feel a propietary interest in
everything that pertains to it,
except paying its bills and shar
ing its loi-ses.
“If all the advice passed out
to a country newspaper editor
was heeded the paper would look
like] a crazy quilt, and would
have as many poiiticies, and uo
more influence than the town
drunkard or grocery philosopher
The editor would advocate some
thing one week, and clash with
Some interest, would have to
apologize the next. Everybody
knows how to run a newspaper.
Listen to this lrom the Lindale
Free Lance :
“If you don’t like everything
you see in your home paper, go
around the streets and howl.
The editor is never supposed to
make a mistake and of course
ccnnot do so. Other people can,
but the editor is ubiquitous,‘om-
niverous.’ If you can t see a
good point, don’t see a bad one.
If a thousand pleasant things
are said of people, hunt for
something unpleasant. If you
don’t find it Jhowl some more, if
you do, bowl any way. Never
mind your own business ; watch
lor something to find lault with
in some other mam busines.
This will make you great

Reeves for Samples. 1 y° u have missed it, how far a
Editor Free Pressi-Please a l- man’s opinions can lead him

reply to mv friend, John Milton the most enjoyable
Samples, who comes out so pub- heaven will be when
licly and bodly berore the music deemed singers ot this earth are
world and takes the stand which i P««ng through the pearly gates
he now occupies. I am not n rr - >w?»g their swee songs o
sonally acquainted with my I Praise unto God as they enter
triend Samples, but learn he is
a young man twenty two or
three yeais old. I am sorry for .
him. God pity him or any other s ” ch awful immoralities
young man who would let their
opinion lead ihem so tar away
trom the teaching ot our Lord.
L want to refer my brother to
the conditions ot tne world to
day caused by different opinions
on the teaching ot our blessed
book, but thank God they are
much nearer together today
than ever before.
1 pray that God may hasten
the time when we all may be-
one in Christ, Brother Samples
are you outside unsavedR. If not
why do you stand so firmly
against this most touching part
ot worship. My brother says
time has changed, certainly they
have and people are drawing
nearer to Christ every day I
want to say, my dear readers,
there is nothing on earth that
would lift men and women high,
erand bring them nearer to God
than gospel songs. Singing is
the most important part of wor
ship. Our greatest evangelists
always carry the best musicians
with them that they can secure.
There has never been any
great religious movement with
out the aid of sacred songs.
Moses and the hosts of Israel
sang of their deliverance on the
shores of the Red Sea. The an>
gels of heaven sang the good
tidings of great joy over Beth
lehems manger. At midnight
Paul and Silas prayed and sang
praises unto G >d and ten thou-
sand times ten thousand shall
sing his praises eternally.
“Godsends his singers upon the earth,
With songs of sadness and of mirth;
That they might touch hearts of men,
And bring them back to heaven again.’’
Music is more than a mere
amusement, it is a God given
influence for man’s refinement
and elevation, it m a language
that appeals only to that which
is pure, true, noble and good.
Music is the essence of order
and leads to all that is good,
just and beautiful. Hearing good
music atones our hearts to love
God and man better.
God is the auther of music
my brother, not man, he laid
the keynote to all harmoDy. He
planned all perfect, be made us
that we might understand there
is no greater aid' to the spiritual
developement of mankind than
good music; it washes away
from the soul of everyday life,
it purifies the heart,, mind and
soul. God intended music to
beautify, and to elevate the in
tellect iiself by purifiymg the im
agination and the heart, he who
havrug inspired thin glorious
art declared that music should
become in heaven itself eternal.
“Sing lorlh the honor of his
name, make his praises glorious.
I will also praise thee with the
psaltery. Even thy truth O' mv
God: Unto thee will' I sing, O
thou holy one ot Israel; I will
praise thee O Lord among the
people, and I will sing praises
unto thee among the nations.

not speak of the morals as well
the immo' als, they were thpre ;
God is everywhere and he is

I have stood lace to face, my
brother, with the singers of our
our laud and country and sang
those gospel songs until the
tears would come trickling down
our dear old mothers cheeks
and it seemed to me, my dear
readers, as l would cast my

could see Jesus standing iu their

been at home or out looking
after the immorals which he
harps so much about. Now
brother I am going to invite you
to med at old Carrollton Chiisl-
ian church on the next first Sun
day where we will sing those
sweet gospel songs together
once more. Now brother Sam
ples (-pardon me for being so
plain on this subject, for when I
see one that has been led astray
it is my desire to bring him back
into the told ; for there is more
rejoicing in heaven over one re
pented sinner than ninety nine
just reasons. Trusting now my
brother that this may be a help
to you in your early manhood
and you may see the mistake
you are making and will turn
before it is everlastingly too
late. Yours in songs,
H E Reeves.
nlalaria is due to impurities and poisons in the blood. Instead of being
rich, strong and healthy, the circulation has become infected with germs of
disease which destroy the rich, red corpuscles that furnish nourishment and
strength to the body, and reduced this vital fluid to such a weak, watery
condition that it is no longer able to keep the system in health, or ward off
the countless diseases and disorders that assail it. The loss of these
red corpuscles takes the rolor and glow of health from the cheek, and we
see pale, sallow faces and washed out, chalky complexions among the first
symptoms of Malaria. But Malaria is a general systemic disease, and asy
the Mood becomes more heavily loaded with its germs we have more serious
and complicated symptoms; the impure blood having its effect on all parts
of the body. The appetite fails, digestion is weakened, chills and slight
fever are frequent, and the sufferer loses energy and ambition because of a
consent tired-out and "no account ” feeling. The lack of necessary nour
ishment and healthful qualities in
the biond causes boils and abscesses,
skin affections, and ill some cases
sores and ulcers to break out, and
sometimes the patient is prostrated
with a spell of malarial fever which
may leave his health permanently
Impaired. To cure Malaria both a
blood purifier and tonic are necessary,
in order to remove the cause and at
the same time build up the system
trom its weakened and run-down
condition. S. S. S. is the medicine
best fitted for this work. It is the
most perfect of all blood purifiers, and
the purely vegetable ingiedients of
which it is composed make it the

During 1900 I was running a farm on
the Mississippi river and became so impreg
nated with Malaria that for a year I wai
almost a physical wreck. I tried a number
of medicines recommended as blood purifi
ers, chill cures, and Malaria eradicatora,
but nothing did me any good until I began
to use S. S. S. The result was that after
taking it tor awhile I was as well and
strong as I ever was. I have never had a
chill since nor the slightest symptom of
Malaria. I hope will be benefited

greatest and safest of all tonics.
S. S. S. goes down into the circulation and removes every trace of impurity
?r poison, and at the same time gives to the blood the health-sustaining qual
ities It needs. It cures Malaria thoroughly and permanently because it
removes the germs and poisons which produce the disease, and while doing
this tones up and strengthens every part of the system. When S. S. S. has
cleansed the blood the symptoms pass away, the healthy color returns to
the complex'on, the old tired, depressed feeling is gone, and the entirehealth

The Lady of the Telephone.
She is more than five feet tall,
she is 95 per cent, unmarried,
she is neat, she is quick, she is
never deaf nor dumb, she is in-
visible when most effective—she
is the girl who must be consulted
before you get the telephone you
want. Thongh not much ot a

The Government experts find
that she answers 235 calls a min
ute without shedding a hair pin,
buqdoes not mention that she can
give the same wrong number
three times in five minutes and
cause attacks of apoplexy and
indignation at both ends of the
wire.
She must be either very pat

men of many tempers and_ > many
women of many tongues. And
it she can manage this success
fully and emerge from a day of
conflict with unruffled temper
and smiling face, she must be a
wonder.
There she sits, this lady ot the

Patience on a monument smiling
at Rage. From out of the wreck
of matter and ruin ot worlds
comes undistorbed her even tones

Do not forget to save your Oats and Wheat for
the exhibit at the A. & M. Fair next fall. Hand
some prizes are offered for the best exhibit in
small grain. It will pay you to carefully put
aside some of the best raised.
Prizes are offered for poultry and live stock also.
In fact everything raised on the farm will receive
due consideration at this fair. Would you not
like to have a few shares of the stock? Last year
the Fair paid a dividend of 33 per ct. It is a safe
investment and one that will help to build up the
educational and industrirl institutions of the
