Sunday School Convention
The Sundav School Conven
tion of Villa Rica division met
at Pleasant Grove Church, Sun
day, May 29th, and was called
to order by Chairman J T Hix-
on, and was opened with a song
led |by chorister J C Hixon.
The 523rd Psalm was read by
chairman, alter which convens
tion was led in |prayer by S O
Fielder ot Villa Rica. The ad
dress ot welcome was delivered
by Horace Hixon of Pleasant
Grove and was responded to on
part of convention by Guy Wells
ot Temple. The Sunday School
lesson was taken up and very
efficiently handled by W B Cam
dler of Villa Rica. The address
on the interest ot the Sunday
School work was very interest-
'ingiy delivered by A K Snead
ol Carrollton. The 11 o’clock
service was one ot the main
features of the day, which was
very ably discussed by Rev J M
Dodd, of Carrollton, text, two
last verses of Matthew. Immed-
iately after the sermon the fol
lowing committees were appoint
ed: Committee on resolutions,

AFTERNOON SESSION

Michael. The address on the
value ot a boy was very interest
ingly delivered by Judge Jas
Beall of Carrollton. The Ber
mon at 3 o’clock rendered by
Rev A J Morgan of Ackworth,
was quite a feast to the audience
and enjoyed immensely by all,

Committee on resolutions report
as follows : Resolved 1st, That
this committee be appointed as a
standing committee, so they
will have ample time to arrange
suitable resolutions and that
they be printed in the paper
when notice of meeting is given.
2nd. That some one be appoint
ed to make a talk on Sabbath
observance at each of our meet
ings. 3?dt We recommend that
the Superintendent of each
school should be careful in se
lecting their teachers that they
are consecrated Christians and
interested in the S. S. work.
4th. We recomend that the pas
tors of each church be requested
to preach special sermons on
S S work and insist that all of
the church take part in the grand
work and especially the older
folks . 5th We recommend that
we should make our church and
S S work second to nothing
and that no officer or teacher
should ever be absent without
having some one appointed to
to take his place. 6th. We rec
omend that all S S workers
should encourage the singing
service so as to make it interest
ing to the children. 7th. We
feel thankful to God for the
good talks given us to day and
also lor the appropriate isermons
given us by Bros Dodd and
Morgan and the good singing
we have enjoyed. 8th. JWe
extend to the Pleasant Grove
church and community, our
thanks for their hospitality and
kindness towards us while in
their midst and hope this meet
ing will be a blessing to them
aUd that each member of this
convention shall so be enthused
at this meeting as to do greater
work than ever before. Signed
Carrollton to Have Another
Railroad
A number ot our citizens met
at the Court House last Friday
for the purpose of discussing
more and better railroad facili
ties. It was brought out at this
meeting that we pay $500,000
freight annually to the Central
Railroad, which is more (than is
paid by any [other city on this
line.
The r proposed line will run
from this city to some point on
the Southern or Seaboard and
thereby relieve the situation.
Organization can be had under
the charter which was secured
some time ago. when the sum ol
$50,000 has been subscribed and
ten per cpnt paid in. Already
$36,000 of this amonnt has been
subscribed and a committee has
been appointed to canvas the
city and raise the balance.
Mrs E. M. Bass and little
daughter returned lrom Atlanta
Saturday night, alter a delight
lul visit with her sister Mrs.
Howard Dobbs
Mrs. Tucker and little daugh
ter Aelen, will arrive next Tues»
day from Atlanta, and will
be the guest of Miss Lucie
Harris lor two weeks.
Mesdames C. H. Stewart and
Sidney Holdemess and sons
Horace and Sidney left Wednes’
day to spend two weeks visiting
relatives in Jasper and Cordova
Ala.

Mrs W- F. Brown returned
Wednesday from a visit to At
lanta aind Whitesburg. Mrs.
Bennette Evans, of Whitesburg
accompaued her home, and will
spend sometime here.

NOTICE.
Notice is hereby given of the intention to
apply to the General Assembly of Georgia
for the passage of a bill at its session in
1910, having the following caption:
A BILL
To be entitled An Act to amend, consolidate
and supersede the several acts incorporating
the town of Bowdon in the county ot Car-
roll; to confer additional powers upon the
corporate authorities thereof and define their
powers and duties; to authorize them to es
tablish and maintain a system of water
works and electric lights therein and pro
vide a revenue for ther maintenance, and
for other purposes pertaining thereto.

schools were made, 11 schools
were represented with very fa
vorable reports and an increase
of interest and attendance.
The place for holding meeting
was left to the executive com
mittee. Convention was closed
