Monster Nests.
In Australia are to be found the
largest, heaviest and most peculiar
nests in the world. These nre the
nests of the jungle fowl, so called,
and are built in the form of great
mounds, the average measurement
in height being fifteen feet and the
circumference 150 feet. The nests
are erected in secluded, sheltered
spots, and, ns in the ease of the
email nests of birds, thev nre skill
fully interwoven with leaves, gmss
and twigs and such other suitable
material ns the fowl may be able to
procure. A similar system in the
construction of nests is followed by
the bush turkey, whose homo is,
however, more comprehensive in de
sign. Its shape is pyramidal. It
has been asserted by Australian nat
uralists that the nests of the bush
turkeys, which live in colonies, nre
so lnrgo that to move them requires
tho services of six or seven men.—

Keep Accounts.
"Keeping accounts, simple in form,
plain, clear and easily understood,
showing amounts duo to or from
others, entering correctly tho dates
on which money' is paid out or re
ceived, is the best plan to avoid dis-
{ rates about money matters and re-
ieves the memory of many unnec
essary burdens. A written record
of a money transaction has greater
legal value in case of controversy
in court than any verbal statement.
The habit of keeping accounts in
duces economy in expenditure and
inspires the habit of saving up, be
sides showing at all times a correct
financial condition. Housekeepers,
mechanics and all who handle mon
ey in the management of their per
sonal affairs will find it most profit
able to form the habit of keeping
accounts.
In order lo succeed with any
! kind of Irish Potatoes, let me
I emphasize the absolute necessity
j tor thorough preparation ol your
ground. For satisfactory results
11 must be good loose soil and so
1 so manipulated by lrequent cul
tivation before and alter plant
mg, F8 to conserve the moisture.
At the same time wet soil must
be avoided or drained so as to re
move the excess water, otherwise
the potato plant will rot and even
the plants will decay at any stage
of their growth if water stands in
the ground. Lookout mountain
potatoes are successfully grown
on Lost Mountian, Cobb, County
Georgia. The land a rich dark
red soil, is highly fertilized by
abundant application ol well rot.
ted manure and drained when
necessary'. The farmers select
the most fertile places on their
plantitations and bring them up
to the highest state of cultivation
and raise enormous crops, In
favorable seasons they have
been known to produce 400
bushels. This is exceptional,
however. They consider 150
bushels a lair field. Tnese
potatoes sell at $1.00 a bushel at
diggiug time and $3.00 per
bushel lor seed at planting time.
Keep them as cool and dry at
all times as possible The cooler
the better just so they do not
freeze in winter. !n bpring you
must be sure they are in dry
places and you can hold them
back lrom sprouting by an aps
plication of lime. They grow
more vigeriously than any other
pototo I have ever known and
you must watch them close to
see that the sprouts do not ad
vance too far before planting
By keeping them back as I have
said, storing in a dry place, it is
well enough to have vigorous
tough sprouts just starting,
provide you will carefully handle
them and not break them oft.
.Every man cuts potatoes ac
cording to his own notion.
Some people cut to one eye,
some two, some hall the potato
and some the the whole tuber.
There must be sufficient food
stored up in the potato to sustaiu
lion.
Considering all circumstances
