Saturday April 22, Abbeville will
give the distinguished Georgian a
rousing welcome.
Governor Atkinson in obedience to
orders from the war department, is
preparing to put the Georgia .Militia

however that the Georgia troops will
not lie called upon to go to Cuba.
The ovations to General bee at

admiration and esteem in which he
is held by the people of the entire
country.
Should General I’lt/.liugh bee lie

Rochelle Crowd Proposes to Dom
Inate The PoHOcs and Elect The
Officers of Wilcox County.
Editor Ciikonk'I.k:— I soo from
tho Now Era that Rochelle has nad a
mass meeting; yes. and she is to
have another mass meeting on tho
Hind ins! At this meeting a full
ticket is to be nominated for county
officers, also roprosontativo. AH
tilt* ilislricts have been invited to
send delegates except Abbeville dis
trict
Now I have boon under the im
pression all lh<' time that meetings
of this nature should bo called by
tile executive coinin' tree of the
county and held at the county site
and every democrat in the county
given an opportunism to pa'ticipa ■
in it. This is indeed a new ilepai
til re from all the customs hitherto
practiced by lids or any other county
in the state of Georgia I venture
to say it is unprecedented in this or
any other state. The meeting urs
so clandestinely called that no one
seems to know just who did it. or
jusl for what purpose. One drag is
ee tain, it was not called at the in
stance of the Democratic Executive
Commii tie, IJ. I*. Stone is a mem
her of die committee and he knew
nothing of it Max K. Land is a
member and secretary of the F.xecu
live committee and he knew nothing
of the meeting.
Now some tilings happened in that
mass meeting, and will happen in
the next one. that slionM lie mule
known to the people.that .they may
think over them and ask themselves:
Is it light ? and if such methods are
0 •oiTccl and deset ve their emiotse
meat ?
When the meeting was called to
order a statement was made that 11 1 i
meeting was strictly for tee Court
house removal crowd and none
others, and its object was to take
charge of tiie county polities and iim
it upon the Court house issue, Or
gaub ers were appointed for each and
CVl* rv district, except Abbeville dis
trict, to get together delegates—“of
the l ight sort" giul send up to Ro
(' hello on the 22nd, and there aril
then nominate officers as above
stated A resolution was passed to
leave Abbeville district entirely out
of eonut\ politics for the reason tact
she does not favor Court house re
moval.
Now one thing I would like to
know: do tiie sober-minded, solid
thinking people of Wilcox county
approve of and endorse this boycot
and ostracism that Hoclieile is so lav
ishly indulging ia? When any one
differs with her in a matter not in
the least affecting the democratic
party, but solely aquesiion of inter
est between two towns, even then lie
is to be ruled out of the democratic
party.
The people in Abbeville, and on
the east side of the countv, are not
to blame for the Court house being
at Abbeville, Our. forefathers put
it there, We should not be blamed
for wishing it. to remain then at
least to such an extent that we
should be disi l anebised, boycotted
and osiraetsed i.i this manne
Abiteville district eontaiiis many
of the oldest a,id stanchest demo
crats in the county. Those who
helped to fight the battles of demo

ouists were ever beard of. Some of
the truest and best men that can be
found any where are here. Their
rights should lie respected.
Draw a line north and south cen
trally through the county; then go
to the tax books and see who pays
the taxes We help to pay the
taxes, build the bridges and keep up
the public roads and' other institu
tions of the county, and we should
have a voice in county matters, Be
