Railroad Article.— We desire our

and suggestions they can, in regard to the
railroads, and our proposed railroad in par

Meteoklogical.—lt was cloudy pretty
much all day yesterday the weather culmi

hard rain, accompanied with wind, light

apprehended that we shall have no small
quantity of falling weather in the next twen

Cholera in Atlanta. —The Atlanta
papers of yesterday morning give the übpl'cas
=ant announcement that cholera was actually
in their city—that six cases occurred up to
the time of tlleir going to Jtrcss—but only
one had proved fatal. The city author

to prevent its spread, and we doubt not, they
will, to a great xtent, succeed. The vex

Medical International Congress
A communication, or circular it may be
called, appears in the September number ol
the Afifcta Medical and i'urgical Journal; I
addressed to the editors thereof, and through
them, doubtless, to the profession generally,
stating that a medical congress, to he com

Nevada mountains in California, will he sev
enteen hundred feet in length, by twenty
four feet in width and twenty-seven in
height, and will be completed in about four
teen months. From thence on the east side
of the mountains the road will have a grade
of ninety feet to the mile for about thirty
five miles; thence for fifty miles from forty
to twenty feet per mile on the desert.

Tii.vt’s the Question. —The St. Ixrais

Fsict* vs. Theories.
“Give me a place to* rest ifty lever on, 1 ' swys
Archimedes, “and I wi’M move the world." “Give
me pure and unadulterated drugs," says medicus 1
es the olden time, "and I will cure disease."
In one sense, both of these' learned prwidits
were the veriest charlatans. They knew there
was no place to rest their lever on, either to
move the world or euro disease. Mechanism Was
m a backward state, and the medical profession
was but another name for aoreery, and ail the
adjuncts of magic Alters and charms of the “evil
‘ye," 4c.
But these latter Jays have borne unto us some
thing more than even supeigtrtion and its crew
ever dreamt of in their maddest philosophy. In
these days of practical science, what was theory
es yesterday is fact to day, and aril the old time
notions become as bubbles in the sun, araf burst
and break with every breath we draw.
bet Archimedes shoulder his lever and we wifi
find a resting plaee for it to move the world I.ct
mine ancient medicus nant and toil no mure fur
the drugs he so sorely needs, for we have them at
our hand, ever ready to serve them at his beck.
Refined in the laboratory of I)r. Maggie), the
finest materials known ill the medical profession
are obtainable by any one. Ilis bilious, Dyspep
'ie, And Diarrhea Tills stand unrivalled, and his
Salve operates with magical effect upon burns,
fealds, and all sores and ulcers of the skin.
In fact, we think Maggiel's Tills and Salve arc
ihe wonder of this centuiy, and we are happy in
the thought that many others of our brethren of
the craft agree with us. We would oarnes.ly
eonnsel that all families provide themselves with
Dr. maggiel’s Trcpi rations at *>nce, and keep
them ready at hand, so as to use them at the most
opportune time aid -u- occasion serves.—Valley
