A fire occurred in Atlanta, on last Satur

(Sunday)—destroying “a row of wooden
buildings on Marietta street adjoining the

The Intelligencer makes no itemisinga of
Ihe lueses by which to get at, any ways ac
curately, the damages, individual or aggre
gate. Tbe lost, however, we infer, was not se
rious—most of it being covered by insurance.
Totally lunoked. —There were two
men in the so-called “ Loyal ” Convention
that assembled in Philadelphia on the 3rd
instant, who, outspokenly, were not in favor
of hanging Jefferson Davis, at least, as one
of them said, “untill fuund guilty.” In the
other Convention, the one that assembled at
(he same place, on the 14th of August, there
were doubtless more than two, but we are
not authorized to say all, Mr. Raymond be
ing recollected—that were not willing to see
our beloved quondam Chief Magistrate sus
pended to the ignominous gallows: but in
saying this much, we have to infer it, as in
the published proceedings of that body, not
a word, not a syllabic, is there that whisper
fngly tells there is such a man as Jefferson
Davis in the universe.

have chuekelcd as he felt and knew he, the
Da vis-hater, and Davis-calumniator, was the
master ruling spirit of that vast assemblage

Information Wantkd. —Of the where
abouts of John Dunning, aged about twenty
five yoars, of medium size. He was one of
two sons of Mrs. I tunning, an old lady living
in Hnutingdon, Tennessee. Both sons were
in the Confederate army, and made good
soldiers—one was killed, and the other,
John, returned home after the war, and re
mained until August 18Go, when he left,
with the intention of looking out a more
comfortable home for his aged mother. Ife
was expected to return in two weeks, but no
tidings have been heard from him since, ex
cept that he was in this place for a few days
after leaving home. lie left here, but no
one knows where he went to. llis mother
is in great trouble about him, and will be
thankful for any information as to his fate.

ing a subordinate position in the East India
service, twice attempted to deprive himself
of life by snapping a loaded bistol at his
head. Kach time the pistol missed fire.
A friend entered his room shortly afterward,
and he requested him to fire it out at the
window ; it then went off witdout any diffi
culty. Satisfied thus that the weapon had
been duly primed and loaded, the young
man sprang up, exclaiming, “I must be pre
served for something great, and from that
moment tjare up the idea of suicide, which
had for some time previous been uppermost
tb his thoughts. That young mau after
ward became Lord Clive.

ter than Andrew Johnson that there is to be
no trial. The Radical scheme is to confine

Does the President approve of this 1 ? Will
he be a tacit accomplice in this' atrocious
murder ? We hear him ever and anon de
nounce Jefferson Davis as a traitor; but we
beg t» tell him that, if Mr. Davis is a traitor;
there is not a decent person in the South
who does'n'»t accept the epithet for liimself.
If Mr. Johnson wants perfect peace let, him
liberate our representative. The South feels
