Another View of Cheap Cotton-
The Indian cotton is decidedly infe
rior to ours, but it can be need, and in
German mills it is extensively used. II
American cotton had not been declin
ing in price the production of cotton
in India would have advanced rapidly.
Let the American producers reduce
their crop and hold it fig
ures and they will see cotton growing
in India spreading and the fiber
bought by European spinners, because
if the difference between American and
Indian cotton exceeds a certain mar
gin the spinners will find the Indian
fiber the cheaper for them.—Journal
of Financial Bulletin.

Simple Subtraction-
An Irishman was hauling water in
barrels from a small river to supply
the inhabitants of the village, which
was not provided with waterworks,
says Tit Bits. As he halted at the top
of the bank to give a “blow” before
proceeding to peddle the water, a gen
tleman of the inquisitive type rode up,
and after passing the time of the day,
asked:
“How long have you been hauling
water for the village, my good man? ’
“Tin years or more, sor,” was the re
ply.
“Ab! And how many loads do you
make a day?”
“From tin to fifteen, accordin’ to the
weather, eor."
“Yes. Now, I have one for you,
Pat,” said the gentleman, laughing,
‘ How much water have you hauled al
together?”
The Irishman jerked his thumb in
the direction of the river, at the same
time giving bis team the hint to start,
and replied I
“All the water that yez don’t see
