A Grifflnite Honored-
But for hie illness, our illustrious
fellow citizen, Hon. Jas. S. Boynton,
would have taken a prominent part in
the exercises of the confederate veter.
ans reunion in Atlanta this week.
He was selected by the joint com
mittee of tbe legislature, which was
appointed under tbe reunion joint
resolution, to make one of the ten
minutes addresses oi welcome, and
was to represent the General Assembly
of Georgia in bis remarks. He was to
heve followed Mayor Collier’s address,
and precede Governor Atkinson.
Judge Boynton received a letter
from Gen. Clement A. Evans, presi
dent of the Confederate Reunion As*
social ion, a few days since, in which
Gen. Evans said:
“I beg to remind you of your com
mission as Brigadier General of the U.
0. V., and to say that you must ride
in front of the left wing of the division
Friday afternoon with your staff. You
need not trouble yourself as to Uni
form, although that can be had here.
The Confederate gray hat should ‘be
worn by yourself and staff? If you
have not chosen your staff, I would
advise that at least two of your com
rades be appointed to ride with you.”
Tbe association conferred quite an
honor upon Judge Boynton.in making
bim a brigadier general, but there
would have been no more distinguish*
ed figure in the procession than this
courtly southern gentleman and gal
lant confederate soldier if he had been
physically able to accept the commis*
sion offered bim.
