It io according to the eternal fitness
of things for Gen. Fitzhugh Loe to be
the governor of Cuba nnder provision

would give ouch complete satisfaction
to Bpaniardo and Cubano, to say noth

Hie conduct while consul general
showed him to be a man gifted with

Purity of the Ballot.
Papers in a number of cities in
Georgia are making favorable comt
ments on the action of Griffin in de
ciding to nominate candidates for mu
nicipal offices by white primary. Thia
is the only plan that will secure fair
elections in southern cities, where
there is a large colored vote that is
purchasable.
Columbus has had sufficient expert
ence in the past to cause her to follow
Griffin's example. A paragraph yes
terday morning in our-Jocal columns
shows that three citizens of Muscogee
had paid 1140 each after conviction of
vote baying in the city court. No one
believes that these throe parties are <
the only ones who have bought votes
in recent elections, but the result of
their conviction and fine will go a <
long ways toward creaking up the j
practice of buying white votes that are ,
purchasable, in the event the negro
vote is eliminated,by adopting the plan
of a white primary for the nomination
of candidates.
The practice of buying and selling
votes was carried on so long in Colum
bus and Muscogee county that a groat
many people got to where they did not
consider it anything more than legiti
mate, and at times little or no effort at |
concealment was made.
Tbo convictions in the city court
will no doubt have a good influence in 1
tbo future, but the adoption of the j
white primary will probably do more ,
than anything else toward purifying 1
o«r elections.—■Colombas Enquirer.

MUTUAL LIFE INSURANCE GO.
OF NEW YORK.
IS THE OLDEST IN THE UNITED STATES AND
THE LARGEST IN THE WORLD.
Since organization to the present time, it has paid and now holds on
policies not yet due the enormous sum of $716,000,000. _
Its dividend record is unsurpassed by any other company m the world.
It protects your dividends in case of death and provides for your old age.
See that your policy has this clause inserted in it.
As compound results are the source of life of all the old line companies,
what is best for the company should be best for the insured. And for best
results take a policy in the grand old MUTUAL LIFE. .
Fathers see to it that the daughter, the pride of your heart, when as
sailed by the vicissitudes of‘life and touched by the °f_ fate, shall
be provided with a guaranteed income for lite. The MU TUAL LIrE, the
strongest financial institution known on the globe—twice as large as the
Bank ot England—writes that guarantee.
And to the patriotic soldier who feels called upon to avenge the wrongs
to his country, we say don't forget the loved ones at home the Mutual Life is
prepared to take care of all. And. for the benefit of those who have a
in inis grand old company we give the following extract from a letter ot the
president, Richard A. McCurdy:
“I wish you to assure every policy-holder in this Company
that his rights will be fully protected under all circumstances
and tha no one need hesitate to respond to the call of patriot
ism or duty through fear of the forfeiture of his policy.
