Only one case was tried during the

at intervals. After night the streets
and trees began to take on a coating
of ice, and today will be no more
pleasant than was yesterday.

were applied often there would be less
cracking and warping of furniture.

Coat of Arms of the Colon,
The navy department has communi
cated with the commandant of the
navy yard at Norfolk, with a view to
carrying to Washington for display in
the navy department the coat of arms
of the sunken Spanish battleship Cris
tobal Colon.
This is a splendid specimen of bronze
work, and if its size will admit it will
be placed on exhibition in the large
reception room of the Secretary of the
Navy.
Assistant Secretary Allen, who is
directly in charge of the wrecking
operations on the Spanish vessels, has
been informed that the Neptune Com
pany of Sweden has dispatched a ves
sel with a number of divers to the
wreck of the Colon. They will make
a thorough inspection of the hull un
der water and upon their report the
company will base its proposition to
the department to attempt to float the
vessel.

Same Is True of Griffin-
If you don’t believe Marietta people
patronize Atlanta merchants, you go
to the train and see them get off with
bundles. It will astonish you. The
stores of Marietta suffer badly. If
Atlanta was about 80 miles distant the
trade probably could be controlled, as
it is the distance is so near and the
fare so cheap, it is like running a
sheet car line, and Marietta the su
burbs. All parts of our county, es
pecially on the south side, patronise
Atlanta The dollars poured into the
laps of Atlanta merchants never come
back to this county, and we are thus
drained of much revenue that ought
to go to build up and foster home bus
iness. There seems to be no help for
it—Marietta Journal.
