The city council failed to hold its
regular meeting last night on account
of the absence from the city of Mayor
Davis and several aidermen. They
will meet Friday evening at 7 o’clock,
when they will transact considerable
business of importance.
The Current Topics Club will meet
this morning at 10 o’clock. Every
member is requested to relate an item
pertaining to the Christmastide. Dr.
Anthony has kindly consented to lec
ture before Che club, and bis subject
will be “Water.” Every member is
requested to be present.
Col. J. M. Strickland will leave in a
few days to take charge of the Thom
aston Times which be purchased
some time ago. Col. Strickland is a
young man of unusual ability and
we feel assured of his success jn his
new profession. A host of friends
here will regret to see him go.—Con

The many friends of H. Guy Wood
ward, who played at the Olympic
theatre last summer, will be delighted
to know he is trying to arrange a date
with Manager Patterson for the ap
pearance of bis excellent company in
this city. Mr. Woodward is a bern
comedian and during his stay here last
summer made many friends who will
love to see him again in bis new and
large company.

The Eclipse.
There was a total eclipse of the
moon last night, and the phenomenon
was witnessed by all our citizens.
The entire duration of the eclipse
was 3 boors, 48 minutes and 54 sec
onds, and the moon was totally eclips
ed for ore hour, 29 minutes and 12
seconds. The eclipse began at 3:47
and ended at 7 :36 p. m , and was the
last total eclipse we will have for some
time to come.
