ment Book, Guardians’ Bonds, Admin¬
istrators’ Bonds, years support, Letters

correctly and very neatly kept. We
also find the proper vouchers all re-
eerded upon the proper boak*. We
vouchen ' »•

indexed, which is a great convenience
to the county.
" e don t think ioo much can be
said in favor of our very efficient Ordi.
nary for the manner in which he keeps
his hooks and papers.

COUNTY FARM.
The paupers arc well fed, clothe 1
and attended. There arc fourteen «f
them properly registerdd—five whites
and ni»e colored; two white hoys,
three white women, five negro men
and font negro women. Al' well sat¬
isfied.
There arc three hired 1 antis on the i
farm, besides the overseer. i
l'rop.-tty on tho farm :
One at $8 per month and hoard.
One at $10 per month and board.
One at $450 per month and board.
(Cook and nurse.)
Oversee; » wages $250 per annum.
Two mules, in geod condition.
One 2-horse wagon and harness.
Seven head cattle, of which two are
milch cow*.
Two head hogs. !
One sulky plow.
One Acme harrow.
One set black smith tool*, with port¬
able forge, 1 vice, 1 anvil, with tongs,
hammers, etc. Value about $35.
One grind stone.
One cotton planter.
Two single nad one double plow
stocks.
Blow hoes enough te run the farm
! until after planting time,
i Weeding hoes, spades, rakes, etc.,
sufficient for a two-horse farm.
Abeut 175 bushels of corn. About
1,000 lbs. old and 2,400 lbs. new fodder.
300 htuhel* cotton seed. 10 biuhel*
peas, 1 barrel syrup, (40 gallons)
stalks ribbon cane, 20 bushel*
potatoes.
GROWING CROP AND ORCHARD
Nine and one-half acres in wheat
fine condition, in fact the West
wheat we have seen in the county
About 400 fruit trees, old and young
PROSPECTIVE CROP.
The overseer informs us that lie
instructed to plant the following
crop tit is spring
20 acres in corn
40 acres in cotton.
4,000 stalks sugar cane—all seed
hand. *
This, together with garden,
potatees, etc., will make s total
abeut 63 acres.
The cabins for paupers, barn?,
bles, etc., are iu good condition.
The dwelling house of the
needs repairing very much and
once. The sills supporting it on
north and east sides are rotted
and should be replaced with new
without delay, t^uite a number of
pillars supporting the house need
pairs.
Most of the windows need new
or the repairing of the old ones. A
great many glass are broken out of
windows, and in fact the building
old and delapidated, aud needs a
eral renovation, and we suggest that
be repaired as early as practicable.
The collar under the house, used
a storage room for provisions, etc.,
think should be filled up at once, as
i8 now full of stagnant water and
certainly create sickness if it
as it is much longer.
We suggest that the front fence
the dwelling be repaired by the
en the place, the County
ers furnishing the material.
EXPENSES AND RECEIPTS FOR THE
We find that the
have paid out, up to Hits time,
13, 1888) for expenses of farm,
51, and have received for sale ef
produce and value of produce now
hand,$1,111.62. Leaving abalance
maintaining paupers of $474.89 ;
is about $34.00 per capita of paupers.
The Couuty Commissioners and
Overseer report to us that there
some controversy between them
Mr. Lucius Johnson io regard to
rails taken by Mr. Johnson and
ed by tlie Overseer as the property
the county.
We : ocommend that the
sioners take such steps as will
the ownership of the rails, and if
were wrongfully taken by Mr.
that he be made to pay for Hu m
replace them.
We find that the former sale of
old farm was not consumated on
count of the failure of the
to comply with his contract, and
recommend that the County
sioners ex*-rci»c their best judgment
regard to it, and do tho very best
can for the couuty in the matter.

COUNTY COMMISSION ERS,
We find these books aud papers
neatly and properly kept, with prop
or vouchers for all disbursements.
W'e feel indeed sad while looking
over these book?, recognizing as we
do the many figures aud loiters
made by that faithful and never tir
ing hand which is now stilled in
death, never again to wield the pen
which has accomplished so much for
his fellow citizens.
Yes, indeed, Samuel W. MangLam
was a truly useful man in whatever
position ho wns placed, and we wish
to lay our small tribute at the feet
of coble worth and to express io
the I treavW family our sincere and
benrtfslt condolence at tho irrepaia
