necessary to change the cage frequently
from a high to a low point, then from

money can be spent advantageously for the
benefit of the toilers. Cornelius Vanderbilt
has appropriated a large sum of money to
build a club house for the employes of the
New York Central Railway company who
work around New York. In this club the
men are furnished refreshments and oppor¬

I’ndomil ill Holland.
They have some very foolish customs
in Holland, such as that, for instance,
which compels a lady, whether alone or
accompanied by other ladies, to avoid
passing a club house or other place o(
rendezvous for gentlemen. If a lady
must needs enter a confectionary store,
library, or other place where men natur¬
ally go, and finds a gentleman or two
there, she feels compelled to retire as pre¬ of
cipitately as if she had seen a case
smallpox. The men know this, but un¬
less they have finished their business they
will not retire. The lady retreats in the
most undignified manner, and the human
bear finishes his book or his chocolate,
even though the lady is at the door wait¬
ing for him to leave.—Home Journal.

FOBIFT TODR BLOOD.
Impurities tu Ike blood produce dlteascs.
Bodily and mental bealUi depend upon m
faealUiy condition of the blood. Tho blood,
particularly In tlic spring and during the hot
summer months, becomes clogged with lm
purities, which poison It and general* dis¬
ease. A harmless blood purifier, without a
particle of mineral poison in It, such as mer¬
cury or potash, is necessary to remove these
Impurities and to restore the healthy tone of
mind and body. The best purifier and tonic
known to the world Is Swift’s Specific I8.S.S.1.
In regard to Us wonderful purifying and
tonic powers wa give a few testimonials as
follows:
Mr. Wm. A. Slebold, with Geo. P. Rowell A
Co., 10 Spruce Street, New York, writes March
29th, 1889: “ I feel It my duty, for the benefit
of others who may be afflicted as I was, to
write you this letter, which you can use as
n»y testimony In any way you choose. I will
answer any Inquiry from others In relation
to the facts herewith stated. In February
last I suffered great patn and Inconvenience
from boils, all over ray neck; I could not turn
ray head without acute pain and my blood
was in poor condition. After trying all tha
usual remedies in such cases, and finding no
relief, by the persuasion of Mr. J. W. Fears,
Manager of your New York Office, I used one
bottle S. 8- S, and I Improved rapidly and
very soon I was entirely relieved of my
•• Job's Comforters." Now not a sign of my
affliction can be seen. I fee! strong and cheer¬
ful. 8. 8. S. Is a fine tonlo as proved In my
oase. I sleop soundly and my appetite Is good.
Dr. J. N. Cheney, a well-known physician
writes from EUarille, Georgia t “ I use S. S. 8.
1 n convalescent fever cases with the best re¬
sults. It will. In my Judgment, prevent sum¬
mer dysentery, If one will take a few bottles
In the spring, thus preparing the bowels for
tho strains of summer.”
Mrs. Scott Liston, UC Zane street (Island),
Wheeling, West Virginia, writes: ‘'Having
used S. 8.8. for the blood, I can safely say
that it beats anything I bave used to cleanse
the blood and make a new being out of a per¬
son."
Mr. M. S. Hamlin. Winston, N. C., writes:
“ 1 use it every spring. It always builds ma
up, giving me appetite and digestion, and
enabling me to stand the long, trying, ener
rating hot summer days. On using it 1 goon
