About September first we shall move into
our new store, at the old stand, Barlow Block,
Public Square, where we shall open the most
elegant assortment of goods in our line ever
brought to Southwest Georgia. At our pres
ent store on Cotton Avenue, we have a large
stock of Watches, Clocks and Jewelry, Solid
Silver and Plated Ware, Pianos, Organs and
Sewing Machines, and everything else usually
kept in a Jewelry and Music Store, that must
be reduced to save moving and make room
for new goods. Therefore, for .the next
Twenty Days, or until we move, will sell any
thing we have in stock at prices lower tlian
have ever been reached before
MERRY MOULTRIE.
Merry Moultrie, Sept. 28.—If
over I do get bold of tbe typo wbo
kindly set up my last week’s letter,
or tbe proof reader wbo didn’t re
vise it, I’ll—well, I’ll apologize.
X must have so wntteo. or else
they’d not have so printed. May
tho Lord have mercy on their
souls anu the publlo do likewise
by my baud write.
I have always argued that my
wife possessed rare powers of man
agement, but never did I see those
powers so wonderfully demonstrat
ed as I did last wcok. Everybody
else was gathering corn, ao I de
cided to gather my crop. After
breaking it down, I thought of
where I should liouso it. Discuss
ing tbe subjeet in her presence, sho
said: “I’ll tell you; the.-e’s « big
basket heru, and ono a size less.
Put your corn in the least one and
you can use tho big one for a shuck
pen and fodder house.” ’Twas
then that the cold iion-y entered
my soul. My broomsedge crop is
huge, and I made enough black
berries to feed every editor in
Georgia through the b. b. season,
Tin rad to part with an old bat
I!literal), and frayed, by sun and dew,
And much ratbetio tenderness
Lingers around a ea.t-off shoe.
Sail pony oiings around tbe shirt
That ragged and torn floats in tbe
breeze;
But pen nor brush oan no’er dsplol
The agony of a ohopped off sneeze.
Mr. Brice, a merchant doing a
largo credit busiress in Brooks
Colquitt and lower Berrien, re
ports the cotton orop in those
parts of the country far too short
for the farmers to meet their in
debtedness from Its yield, lie
predicts suflertng in conscqucnco.
It is now generally agiced
among tho farmers that unless
uuusual economy is observed, tbo
corn yield will not furnisli bread
and stock feed until a new erop is
made.
Permit us to say, that the Re-
cokdeii is a daisy. Two years ago,
this week, I beliove, I began cor
responding wilii and reading reg
ularly the weekly edition. The
paper has beea constantly improv
ing ever since. There appears to
be no dull season with It. Tbe
managers, summer and winter
alike, aro constantly adopting somo
improvement in tbo get up of tho
paper, and to day tho Recorder,
though the subscription price re
mains the same, is worth double
wbst it was two years ago. W here
will you stop! Cradle el multi-

FROM HATCHER’S STATION.
Hatcher's Station, Ga., Sept.
29.—Tbe weather is still dry snd
exceedingly hot, henco very little
if any abatement of sickness. Mr.
Sol. Roberts lost his youngest
child on Saturday last with whoop
ing eougb and fever combined; Mr.
and Mrs G. B. Gay have a very sick
child with pneumonia, and fears
are entertained of ita recovery. In
some sections of tbo connty the
doctors are kept quite busy, when
not sick themselves.
Cotton picking will very soon be
over snd then comes the tur for
and friends, whioh will doubtless
give some of tbe young gents a
genuine case of blues.
B. D. Moore, of, the Southwest
ern railroad, is stopping a few days
with his parents and friends
around Hatober. He seemed to be
the centre of attraction among
some of the young people at Sab
bath 8cbool on yesterday.
Mr. G. B. Gay has a little
daughter very aiek with pneumonia
and is under tho care of Drs. Do
zier and Carter, who will do all
that can bn done to restore tbe
little sufferer. We hope their
efforts may be crowned with speedy
success.
Polities aro getting on a boom
so far as county oflloers are con
cerned. No excitement in the state
election beesuso there is no oppo
sition to the nominees, but tor
county officers, they are as thick
as bees. Some want office beeanse
they are old and decrepid, some
want it because they are young and
active, others because they are on
hand and (eel entitled to them.
I am gratified to see the notion
of the people of Macon county in
an effort to settlo the Senatorial
trouble, and think the letter of
Co). Murray a magnanimous pro
duction, showing q patrlolio devo
tion to the principles of Demoora-
oy and tho general wclfaro of the
socoess of sonnd principles.

Washington, D. 0., Sept. 29—
Mrs. BcWn Lockwood, the candi

Sufirage ticket, has sent to Gover

the nee of eeandel as tho political
weapon, and anggeeting tbo propri

Presidential candidates at Wheel

SILENT!
Macon, Sept. 30—Horaee Chris
topher, who attempted to commit
suicide late Sunday afternoon, is
still nlivo and will probably reoov-
er—thanks to the stomaeh pump.
Christopher is a nice young man
from tbe North who moved hero a
few years ago with his mother and
beautiful sister. They bad plenty
of money and he invested In the
livery business and lost all in horse
flesh. Financial depression is un-
doubtely the otnso, and it is s very
sad ease.
Wesleyan Female College opens
to-morrow with an unusually large
attendance, and the seholars will
resume their studies for tbo next
ten months. Every year adds new
laurels, strength and goodnoss to
this old institution, and there are
very few colleges that equal it in
number of seholars in attendanee.
Every dty for a week, an observer
might have scon dray loads ol
trunks passing, on ronto for the
collego, and open rarr'ago windows
betrayed the presence of young
and dainty faces. Quiohand.
Come and examine our stock, get our
prices, and we will guarantee that you will
be convinced that we mean what we say
Remember we have great bargains to offer for
CASH and the time in which to secure them
is limited. Come one, come all, and don’t
fail to come early.

Mr. Hendricks st Louisville.
Louisville, Ky, September 30.
—Though it has rained all tiav,
extensive prepsrations wero made
for tbe reception of Hon. Thomat

'he city was full of visitors from
neighboring states, and waa hand
somely decorated for the occasion.
Hendricks arrived in the afternoon
from Indianapolis and was met by
the exposition committee. A large
crowd gathen d at the depot and

everything else edible within their

in this neighborhood to change
their plan of farming. Newspaper
artioles have proved ottcriy worth-

sad experience, the very best of
teachers coupled with necessity,
have wrought the change; many
farmers, nay most of them, arc
driven to it from sheer necessity.

I know my friends and cus
tomers think that I am rather
silent since my return from the
North, but it was done on ac
count of moving into my new
mammoth store, and also in
opening and arranging the
stock. I will break the silence
by stating that I have bought
a very large stock of goods,
comprisingDry Goods, Furnish

Hats, and in fact everything
pertnining to ladies and gentle
men’s wear. I “struck” in
time the Halstead, Haynes &

buy or not
One word to the wise: I
bought these goods to sell, and

the low prices and lay in your
