Base Ball Friday.
From a telegram received here
Saturday night wo learn that tho
Ladie’s Base Ball club, of Phila
delphia, will play a picked nine
hero Friday afternoon. The club
is spoken of aa very fair, but of
course cannot compare with pro
fessionals. It must be an amusing
eight to see girls play ball, any
way.
The Balloon.
Somewhere near five hundred
people were out yesterday after
noon to eeo the balloon go up. Two
attempts were made, both being un-
euccessful on Recount of wettwpod
being used, causing steam to 1 be
rnado instead of hot air. It will
go up this afternoon at 3 o’clock

Felder for Mayor.
The Hon. John B. Felder, the
present effloterii' Mayor of tbo city
of Americas,, ls„again. standing for
re-election. Municipal government,
Iiko all others; are good or bad In
proportion as tiiarafficgre are faith
ful, wise and just. The best test of
fitness is a fair trial, if after trial
sufficiently long to develop the
qualification of an officer be is fonnd
worthy, faithful, lust and compe
tent, it were worse than folly to dis
place him. Changes are at most
but experiments.
We think we but express the
opinion of all impartial citizens
when we say that Mr. Felder has
shown himself to be the right man
in the right place. His devotion to
the interest of the city is praise
worthy; bis fearless enforcement of
the law in preserving order and
quiet entitles him to the gratitude
ol all lovers of peace. We do not
claim for him iufalibility, but this
much can be said in bis behalf, that
while sitting as a court be knows
no difference between friend and
foe, bnt metes out justice with im
partial, j udgment. No question
however exciting, no interest of
individual, when in conflict with
the common good of the citizens of
Americus, moves him to act con
trary to bis conviotions of right;
but, regardless of. the effect upon
his personal popularity or indi
vidual interest, the good of the
citizens of tho city ho has the honor
to represent in the capacity of its
chief officer is ever paramount.
With such a record, would it not
be best to continue him in office?
In office for a number of years,
bis friends point to his official rec
ord as a monument of honesty, to
which he, in common with them,
may refer to with pride. Under
his administration the city has
grown rapidly, and promises, in
the near futnre, to be the metropo
lis of Southwest Georgia. With
such a Mayor, the good people
may rest assured that all will bo
done to suppress crime, protect
property and secure order that can
be done. His personal courage,
his devotion to the right, bis fear
less administration of the law and
his untiring watchfulness over
every intorest of the oity, marks
him as a man fitted for the impor
tant trust committed to bis eare.
Alive to all public interests,
whether financial, educational or
moral, his voice is ever potent in
the advocacy of such measures as
are most likely to produce beneficial
results. Let us unite our votes
and honor him and benefit ourselves
by reelecting bim. Citizen.
