P. Glkhsmkr, wifa of \V. L. Gleasner.
aged 43 years.
To record the death of a friend
is a sad task, but when death comes
to us in our family, and we lose
one whom we love as only a man
can once love—one who has been
companion, consoler ami comforter
lor twenty years, the wife of out
bosom and mother of our children
—the journalist is bwailowed up in
the husband, and the brain and pen
which have offered toothers words
of sympathy in their b» n avement
fail us, and in our own Io>s we feel
the utter inadequacy of words. We
cannot eulogize our own dead nor
can we condole with ourself in our
loss. We can but utter a brief tiib-
ute to her worth and leave others to
eulogize her virtues. Asa wife and
mother, she was devoted and faith
ful, giving to h r loved ones full
measure of her warm love, anu stop
ping at no sacrifice; as a neighbor,
she observed as fully as any one
we ever knew the golden text of
“Love thy neighbor as thyself”: as
a Christian, she tried to live up to
the Divine commands in acts ae
well as faith. We cannot more fit
tingly close this tribute to her mem
ory than with the lollowing lines,
written by herself and published
in the St. Louis Home Journal in
1871 :

Hose the voice of the pastor, clear:
"O, flieuds of the soul departed,
Why gland ye weeping here ?

The folds of the veil grow thin,

Of the lovely world beyond,
And fancy w** hear sweet music,
Aud murmurs and whispers fond.
