THURSDAY, OCTOBER 20, 1887.
The Ainiri'i Rwobiikk l» piibll.hed
Dally and Weekly.
The Daily Rbcordeb I* issued every
morning except Mondays, at 50c per month,
or #MJ0 per year.
The W eekly Recorder is Issued every
Thursday morning, at $1.00 per year, paya
ble In advance. It has the largest circula
tion of any paper In Southwest tieorgiu,
circulating largely In the counties of Hum-
ter, Lee. Terrell, Mtewart, W ebster, Schley,
Marlon, Macon, Dooly and Wilcox.
All communications should be addressed
to II. C. STOREY, Publisher.
President Cleveland brought
good luck to the farmers of Georgia
—he brought them a rain.
The Columbus Kuqulrer-Sun is
trying to .ell iteelf to Mr. H. C.
Hannon. 80 far, the trade Ih off.
CongreHhiuan Barnes, of the Au-
guala d at riot, in the face of the fact
that the Augusta Chronicle is n
protection paper, boldly announces
himself as in favor of tariff reform.
The Blakely News comes very-
near closing up shop this week, in
order to see President Cleveland.
At least it will only get out a half
sheet, promising its readers llmt it
will not take its usual Christmas
vacation.
One man in this office will be
very glad when the Piedmont Ex-
position la over w ith. We refer t”
the editor, who is doing a little
more than three men's work. But
he is going to see Jeff itavis, next
week, if the office lias to he closed.
From present indications, it
seems tiiat Joseph Ilrowu is going
to make the Senate defeat th
House bill to make the lessess of
the Htato road give a new bond.
Your Joseph always finds a hole to
crawl out some way. Hail the
resolution originated In the Senate,
doubtless he would have made the
House defeat it. At any rate, he is
not going to make new bond,
will he^ive up*the road.
SOUTHWEST GEORGIA.
The Albany News and Advertiser
will soon issue its illustrated pant
phlet, descriptive of Albany and
Dougherty county. It will msk
over 100 pages, and should bo u
beauty, as Albany and Dougherty
county gave the publishers |l,iMK) to
start the work. We are sorry it
was not ready for the Piedmont Kx-
position and State Fair, as with the
Illustrated Pamphlet and the Illus
trated Recordkk, Southwest Geor
gia would make a showing that
nothing in North or Middle Geor
gia could overcome. But, consid
ering alljthlngs, wo think the ItK-
c'OKliKH held up Southwest Georgia
very well. .
GALLANT GENERAL PHIL COOK
I'nder the above heading the
Macon Telegraph pay* the follow
ing tribute to our gallant towns
man, (for we shall always claim
him as a resident of Amerlcus) and
th* Recorded endorses every word-
of It:
"The Telegraph yesterday pub
lished a letter from General Phil
Cook announcing his intention of
being present at the reunion of Con
federate veterans in thia city next
week.
"No man am-rng il«o thousand,
of Georgians who will meet in
Macon on that occasion will find a
heartier welcome than Gen. Cook.
He ia not a stranger to us. He
lives near by and we often have the
pleasure of seeing him, hut the fre
quency of his visits only heightens
our esteem of this gallant veteran,
and enlarges the place he holds in
our heart.
"Gen. Cook will meet here next
week many of ‘the boys’ who fol
lowed him as bravely as be led.
They keep fresh their devotion to
their old oommander. Rut we
serve notice on them now that they
eannot monopoliic the attentions
to Gen. Cook next week. Macon
will claim a share in the honors to
this brave aoldier, this faithful cit
izen, this genial gentleman."

LITERARY NOTES.
Within recent week* nn untieing
story ha* gone the round* of the
press, to the effect that The Amer
ican Magazine was to he conducted
for the benefit of It* contributors,
who would receive stock in pay
ment for their literary work. The
paragraph has called forth jnuch
pity for the editor of a magazine so
managed; wasted tears, as the
story never had any foundation and
is wholly untrue.
Olivia Delaplaine, in Mr. Faw
cett’s story in the American Maga
zine, is at last fairly launched on
the sea of New York society, and
begins to show some of tlie quali
fications of a leader.
Paul Hamilton Hayne, the South
ern poet, left with Maurice Thomp
son the materials for a biography.
Mr. Thompson does not think It is
time yet for such a publication, but
will contribute an appreciative
sketch of Ids brother j»oct to The
American Magazine for November.
Gen. Lucius Fairchild, recently
Commander-in-chief of the Grand
Army of the Republic, will give, in
the November number of the Ameri
can Magazine, an account of the
origin, aims and work of the Order.
The G. A. It. is essentially a great
benevolent society; its chief busi
ness is to help tlic needy, and lias
kept closely to its work.
The Richest Man In the World
would be poor without health. The
dying millionaire consumptive
would exchange all he is worth for
a new lease of life. He could *have
had it for a song hnd he used Dr.
Pierce’s “Golden Medical Discov-
ry” before the disease had reached
its last stages. This wonderful
preparation is a positive cure for
consumption If taken in time. For
all diseases of the throat and lungs
it Is unequaled. All druggists.

To Assist Nature
Tn restoring diseased or wasted tissue is
all that any medicine can do. In pul
monary afTectiomi, «uch as Coldx, Bron
chitis, aud Consumption, the ulucotis
membrane first becomes intiaiucd, then
accumulations form in the air-cells of
the lungB, followed by tulicrclei*, and,
litmlly, destruction of the tissue. It is
plain, therefore, that, until the hacking
cough ia relieved, the bronchial tubes
can have no opportunity to heal.
Ayer’s Cherry Pectoral
Soothes and Heals
the inflamed membrane, arrests the
wanting process, and leaves no injurious
results. This ia why it is more highly
esteemed than any other pulmonary
specific.
L. D. Bixby, of Bartonsville, Vt.,
writes: " Four years ago I took a se
ver© cold, which waa followed by a
terrible cough. I waa very sick, ami
confined to my bail about four months.
My physician finally auld I waa in con
sumption, and that he could not help
me. One of my neighbors advised me
to try Ayer’a Cherry Pectoral. I did so,
and before I had taken half a bottle was
able to go out. By the time I had
tlnijlied the bottle I was well, and liuvo
remained so ever since."
Alonzo P. Daggett, of Smyrna Hill*.
Me., writes: '* Six years ago, I was a trav
eling salesman, and at that time wan
suffering with
Lung Trouble.
For months I was unable to rest night***
I could seldom lie down, hud frequent
choking spells, end was often com
pelled to seek the open air for relief.
I was Induced to try Ayer’s Cherry
Pectoral, which helped me. Its ^con
tinued use has entirely cured mo, and. I
believe, saved uiy life."
