SILENT !
1 know my friends and cus

by stating that I have bought

These goods arc* of the finest
and best makes, and I will offer

you think that I have got them
without buying them at all. I
vote that Schley was entithd to the Sen

in all respects competent and qualified,
and the nnanimons choice of the people
of .Schley, as w«s shown by her delegates,
then that Choice should have been re
spected by the other two counties. In
all public legislation that Senator votes
for every county of the Kiale, or in other
words, every county is effected for good
or evil by the vote of tho Senator from
the 18th district, as well as all other Sen
ators. Now if Col. Hudson had propos
ed further, that alter both had with
drawn, to allow a mass meeting of the
I people of Schley or by a primary to
; s»y who was their choice, then if Schl y
j had a second time, by a decisive mejun-
up ( handlers ^ |y f called out Mr. Murray to abide such
: choice in good faith it would have been
| proper for Mr. Murray to have ncceeded

Mkkiiy MoiT/riin:, 8ept. 21.—I was
shown cpiite n curiosity a few days since,
by an itinerant Jack-of-all-trades. Being
a skillful smith, he showed us some rocks
in Western Decatur county, Ga.. contain
ing iron, and welted and hammered
until he obtained a small chunk of row
iron therefrom. This ho wrought into
a knife blade, six inches long, which be
succeeded in tempering until it holds an
edge equal to (lie ordinary pocket kniie.
He made a handle for it, and, though
rough, yet it answers very well for
“bench knife,” and he uses it in belt
cutting, etc., when working around
.steam mills. The maker’s name is Levi
Webb, and he is quite a genius in his
way.
I notice some progressive farmers nre
engaged in turning under their stubble
lands, preparatory tJ oat sewing, when
wo get so we can keep our plows right

walk, and rest on stumps and in fence-
jambs, then we will begin to make
rations.

are exceedingly pnii.ftil and for tho time
the men are disabled, their places being
filled by two carpenters from Sumner, Ga.
Dr. Watkins received the nomination
for the Legislative race, but Patterson
and Gay, are both running independent.
Pattersons chances are fair if Gay will
withdraw*, but at present he is not dis
posed to do so.' In accepting tho nomi
nation, Dr. Watkins laid down some
solid truths, which our people would do
well to ponder on. Heretofore, after
electing a representative, we have set
down and let him do as best lie could,
never indicating our wishes ns to bis
course, by mass meeting, petition, or
otherwise. We are now to have u mnss

questions which he, in common with
other members, will bo required to settle
during the coming session.
A good many eases of intermittent fe
ver. Doctors, I believe, call it malarial
rated last night by a dual perform
ance. At the Academy of Music,
to witness its initiation were assem
bled the elite and society of Macon
in all thcr strength and glory. All
the hcauty and chivalry were gath
ered here, and everything passed
as smoothly ns a marriage bell.
The people began to assemble early
—al 1 were anxious to see the cur
tain first rise. At 8:20 the beauti-
tul curtain majestically arose to
the top of the building, uncover
ing a scene well worth seeing, and
the people were gratified. Vocal
amateur talent occupied the prin
cipal partof tho evening, which was
one of pleasure. The entertain
ment was a success, and cvcrybody
went away pleased and in good
spirits.
Barlow A Wilson's Minstrel will
occupy the house to night, and
Lizzie May Ulmer to-inorrow
night.
The other performance wns at
Ralston Hall, and was given by
Lillie Clay’s Company of Ladiex
Only, “An Adamlcss Eden.” The
writer had not the pleasure of at
tending their exhibition, but learn
that the house was packed to its
capacity witli a mixed mass of
males, wiio psid their dollar to sec
legs and not the performance, as
the performance wns said to bo so
poor that it cannot bo even third
rated. It is said that though it
was an Adamlcss performance,
they had an Evoless audience.
They will be in Americus to-mor
row night, and thu samo thing may
be expected as was here—old men,
middle-aged men, young men, and
boys to the front.
Tho war of rates between the
two rival telegraph companies here
is without parallel; but all to the
people's bouclit. It is said to bc
almost as cheap to send by wire as
by letter to principal points. You
can send a bnndro-l words for fif
teen cents, after six o'clock.

Daws in, Sept. 22.—The colored
order of Odd Fellows of Ilawson
and Americus met here Inst Sat
urday, formed in line, and march
ed through the streets by the tap
of the drum. The procession
numlivrcd about 25 members, in
uniform, and as many more who
did not take a part in the parade,
and many spectators, black and
white. After the parade they as
sembled at the court house, and
were addressed by Ilcv. Elbert
Walker and others. Everything
was conducted in a quiet and gen
teel manner.
There was a quarterly meeting
at the colored Metnodist church
yesterday, llev. Joe Wood, l’re-
siding Elder, preached a line ser
mon at 3 o’clock p. m. to n large
and appreciative congregation.
The colored people, in this im
mediate section, deserve a great
deal of credit for tho manner in
which they conduct themselves,
their church meetings, Sunday
schools, common Schools, and their
business generally. They take
very little interest in politics, and
a majority of them, if they vote at
ail, vote the Democratic ticket.
Many of them ato land owners and
are accumulating wealth.
Rev. Howard Key, President of
Andrew Female Collego at Cutli-
bert, preached nn able sermon at
our Methodist church yesterday,
and returned home on the after
noon train.
A thunder cloud rose yesterday
evening and gave us a nice little
rain, which was very much needed.
About sunset lightning struck tho
Methodist church, knocking the
point and the vane from the top of
tho lightning rod, tearing the base
of tho stccplo, shattering two col
umns in front and one sill under
neath, and tearing a hole in tho
floor about thirty feet long. About
8 o'clock at night another rain fell,
and some bail between hero and
Bronwood.
A biblo agent readily sold five
fine largo family biblcs here to-day
in about two hours.
Mrs. Clara Armstrong,daughter
of Mr. E. J. Harris, left to-day for

The ladies of the Mite Society

odist church re painted, inside and

J. B. Avant to do the work.
