A Prominent Legal Firm Incurs the Dis
pleasure of the Court.
Atlanta, April 24.—[Special]—There
was something of a sensation in the
supreme court room to-day when that
tribunal issued an order calling on
Lester & Jiavenel, a prominent legal
firm of Savannah, of which Congress
man Lester is senior partner, to show
cause why they should not be dealt with
for contempt.
In a brief furnished by this firm, and
read before the court two days ago,
appeared language which seemed to re
flect upon that tribunal and one of its
decisions, which it was insisted could
not be constitutionally applied to the
decision of the case then bofore the
court.
The verbago of the order is sharp and
very much to the point. It pronounces
the brief in question discourteous and
disrespectful, and furthermore charges
its authors with misbehavior in their
official conduct as officers of the court

A Clergyman on Trial for Arson
Ipswich, Mass., April 24.—The trial
of George A. Andrews, of Essex, a
licensed clergyman, on the charge of ar-
sou, was begun here to-day.
The government expects to prove
that Andrews was carrying an excep
tionally large insurance for the stock of
goods in his store, soma $4,200 in all;
that the greater part of the goods wero
not to be found in the store when the
firemen got in; that not only were three
distinct tires found on the premises,
but that tho door was locked and
braced, and that Andrews was the last
man in the building within less than an
hour of the time that the lire was tirst
discovered.
A Kean In Her Throat.
To<voa, Ga., April 24.—A sa/i death
occurred here yesterday.
A two-year-old child of Mr. John
Hently, of Franklin county, got a bean
in its throat day before yesterday, and
the parents brought it to Doctors Mc-
Junkin and Davis, of this city, yester
day, to have the bean taken out, but
just as the child was laid out to have
the operation performed, it breathe/1 its
last, and to the great grief of its parents.
Instead of carrying their darling baby
back to brighten their home, they car
ried it back in its little casket prepared
for the grave.
The Emperor Will not Yield.
Pairs, April 24.—Representations
have again been made to Emperor Wil

the passport regulations in force in
Alsace-Lorraine in order to enable the
inhabitants of French towns near the
German frontier to attend the fairs and
markets held in German territory. The
