Top Crop of Cotton Will Turn Out
Vory Well.
Fat mere about America j will again
be busy this week pioking cotton, as
ia favored seotions the top crop is
opening and s good yield is oxpectsd.
Many farmers will thna add materially
to thoir first estimates, some ot them
getting 25 per cant more than ones ex
pected.
These, however, are exceptional
csss*, snd only in favored seotions do
sneh conditions obtain.
Borne of the fields in Bamter are still
white with open cotton and will stand,
a very good picking. In other locali
ties, however, the ptoklng is all finish
ed and tbe fields ere bare.
Tbo Timcs-Booordor was told yes
terday of one of Samter’s most sac-
cessfal farmers who baa yet a hundred
bales of cotton to gather. Ha figured
upon a crop of 800 bales some time
rgo, bnt tbe fine seasons lately hm
added a hundred to bis estimate.
The reeent rains, followed by several
weeks of warm weather, have matured
tbe top crop to considerable extent
and there la still something doing on
tbo old plantation.
And a big grain crop is being pat in
where ootton picking is finished. It
is said that more oats, wheat and rye
are being planted this fall than in sev
eral seaeons past. This has been made
possible by favorable raina, and for
mers seized upon tbe opportunity.
If the prioe of cotton was only at a
fair figure the farmer* wonld be in it.
