For Residence in Americus Bought
Two Years Ago.
"Never in my life have I seen people
so well sntjslled with their homes and
loth to soil us Americus people” said a
real estale dealer yesterday, while dis
cussing property values hero and the
rapid enhancement within recent years
Continuing upon this interesting
topic ho said
"I have requests for homes from
people desiring to come to Americus
as well as from others here desiring
homos, but not an oll'cr lo sell can I get
anvwhere. '
A day or two ago I aakeil a gentle,
man here If he would take *10.000 for
his homo, as I had an order to buy it
at that price, if possible, lie hesitated
a moment, and then declined my prop
ositon, saying that should he sell his
home ho dld’nt know where he could
buy another.
‘And yet he paid only *0,000 two years
ago for the property lie now declines lo
sell for *10.000"
And the story told by this real estate
man is verified by ronorts of other
agents. There is a steadily increasing
demand for residence property, prices
are going higher daily, doubled within
the putt four or five years, and still it
is difficult to buy property here.
And tho next half decade will wit
ness another doubling of values.
sentence followed In forty, while sev
eral eases were nol pressed.
City Solicitor Z. S. Childers, repre
senting the State in nearly all of these
casos, was quite suecesfut in their pros,
ecution, convicting forty out of sixty or
else allowing pleas of guilty made.
Judgo Crisp, in,imposing sentence
upon this big bunch of enlprits, sent
fourteen to the cbalngang on “straight
shots" not allowing tho paymont of
lines. In the others, option was given
of paving tines or going gangward. a
majority preferring the latter.
In fact, the ehalngnng no longer
holds torror to the nogro here, in view
of the many escapes recently. He will
take the chance there to paying line.
WHY GOMPANY IS STILE DELAYED
Farmers Think the Demand Made Is
Too Great.
The Tlmes-Hccorder several days
ago spoke of the delay occasioned the
Macon, Americus and Albany Klec-
tic Railway line at this point by inabil
ity of the surveyors to secure deeds
through certain plantations near Amer
icus where surveys lias been made.
The complaint was mado by one of
the company's agents bore who stahxl
that, while right of way had boon
promised the company froeof nil charge
he could not seenre the deeds.
Thecompnny's representative seemed
not a little worried, and hinted at a
possible change of route.
Yesterday one of Hie land-owners
about whom complaint was made
stated frankly Ids position in the
inattor and why lie luid not handed
over the deods desired. He says it is
simply a mutter of two much land, lie
thinks,demanded by tho company.
Ho will cheerftilly deed a strip one
hundred reel wide, entirely througli Ills
farm, which will Im- n gift of about
fifteen acres land.
Rut the company domands a strip
two hundred feet In width, he says, or
about thirty acres of Ids host land.
This deoil to "00 foot he declines to-
make, ami llie company stands pat in
ita demand. Probably others are await
ing from tho very sume cause.
The Seaboard Hallway parallels the
desired right of way of tlie electric line,
and 100 foot was deeded it. The gentle
man quoted offers to give in writing
perpetual | term It for the removal of
ail trees on Ids land in the way of the
electric lino.
He thinks it a question only of
too much land demanded, nnd this is
what occasions tlie delay. The troubli-
shoiild be adjusted.
