by burglars Sunday night. The
cracksmen secured a small sum of
money and then fled hastily from the
scene.
The fact that Mr. Childers had paid
out considerable money to his farm
bands Saturday night prevented
richer haul by the thieves.
Early yesterday morning Mr. Chil
ders came to Americus and reported
the burglary, and three hours there
after three white men, strongly sus
pccied of the crime, were stored away
in thistle Sumter here, awaiting in
vestigation.
The men gave the names of Leroy
flurkhalter, Hubert Perry and Al
bert McEachen. Two, if not all three
of them, It is said were at Adams
Sunday evening. While all stoutly de
ny the crime Sheriff Feagin and Dep
uty Fuller, who captured them near
Americus. belelve they have made no
mistake.
As soon as the officers received
tews of the burglary they left Ameri
cus for Adams. Six miles out of the
city they met the trio and leveling their
guns, arrested them. They will be
held In Americus until fully investi
gated.

COUNTY IS LIBERAL IN
ITS GIFT TO HOSPITAL
Conlribution of $500 for
Institution.
One thousand dollars Is the goodly
sum contributed by the city and coun
ty towards the maintenance of the
Americus and Sumter county Hospital
for the current year, an amount
which will go far towards defraying
thi flxed charges and current expenses
of that splendid charity.
The city council voted $500 to the
hospital two weeks ago, and Mon
day the board of county commission
ers voted $500 likewise.
Each nmoynt Is to he paid In month
ly Instalments.
The .county commissioners were in
jneeflng yesterday, and were waited
upon by a committee of ladles from
the Hospital Association, escorted by
Aldermen Lee Allen, W. E. Brown and
C. J. Clark as a committee from tho
city council.
Upon making known their wishes,
the ladles were asked what amount
the city council had given tho bospit
Tills Information given the com'
missloners readily voted the hospital
a like sum, and $i,000 Is thus secured
for that Bplendld charity assisted alike
for years by the city and county.
With this amount assured, and the
movement to obtain funds from other
sources well under way, the malntnln-
ance of the hospital during 1910 seems
a certainty.
