NEGRO DIES OE PISTOL
WOWS IN BODY.
Johnson Bored Through By
Bullets.
Gus Johnson, a negro painter well
known about town, died Sunday-
morning from the effect of several
Idstol wounds received two nights be
fore, one of the bullets Btrtklng him
In the abdomen and passing entirety
through his body, coming out near
the vertebrae.
How Johnson managed to get home
after being shot Is surprising to
those who saw the wounds.
Johnson has been here quite a
long while, doing painting and odd
Jobe. The story of tho shooting was
not generally known until the negro
died.
Johnson's story of the affair was
to the effect that he was shot Friday
night by unknown parties as he
was "going home from the lodge."
Another story of the affair, and
that which seems to he generally ac
cepted. Is of altogether different na
ture.
At all events It was a line shot
and Johnson reaped a harvest of lead
that time.
