SUM CHANCE II SUMS
fOR CROP OF FRUIT.
Fearful That Late freeze
Will Kill II.
Americus peach growers "view with
alarm" the prospect for a fruit crop
since tk» recent warm weather set
In, starting the trees to bloom pre
maturely. The outlook within the
past ten days has changed materially
and growers are alarmed in conse
quence.
Tens of thousands of trees In the
Americus territory are In full bloom,
and within a week every orchard will
resemble a blooming garden.
Up to a week ago the trees had not
advanced far, but the few late hot
days has caused the buds to swell
rapidly.
Ochard men about Americus Qo not
anticipate continued warm weather. If
this were true It would be all right,
but they well know, or believe, that
a late March blizzard will play havoc
with the crop between tMs date and
the March full moon.
The peach industry In this section
of the state Is a big Item and Its
death or Its life means much to the
growers, ranking next to the cotton
crop In volume and value.

A groat amount of work still remains
to lie done, and during the past week
somo delay In tho arrival of fixtures

ther postponement of the opening date,
Tho marble floor In the lobby Is yat
to ho laid, while tho 3S0 mall boxes and
drawers have not yet arrived from the
factory, to say nothing of the work of
putting them In. The Interior work,
like that upon the outside, la being
done with great care as to detail, and
while tho progreis Is slow the bulld
og will prove all the handsomer and
ore satisfactory when entirely fln-
ishetl and turned over to the postof-
"» department.
Worse than an alarm of Ore at night
is the metallc cough of croup bringing
