Samuel "Sam” L. Pelt
Mr. Samuel “Sam” L Pelt, age 83, of Barnesville,
Georgia, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Novem
ber 19, 2021, at Eternal Hope
Hospice in Griffin.
Sam was born in Jackson,
Georgia to the late William
Troy Pelt and Florence Chas-
teen Pelt. He was preceded in
death by brothers Ernest, BF
and Emmit Pelt, sisters Alma
McElheney, Nellie Kimbell,
Lyda Stephens, Lelia Smith,
and Emily Jones and grand
son, Alex Cochran.
Sam has had a lifetime
legacy of serving God from childhood at Towaliga
Baptist Church to sixty years at Rock Springs Church.
At Rock Springs, he served in many areas from the
bus ministry, choir, Church Leader and active Deacon
until he was physically unable. Sam was employed
with General Motors for thirty-five years having much
respect from those he worked with as well as those
he supervised.
Sam was known as the “Sauce Man,” as he pro
duced Martin’s Bar-B-Q sauce for over 25 years and
organized hundreds of chicken ques for churches and
schools. After retirement, he served as Commissioner
in Lamar County as well as a bus driver for twelve
years for Lamar County Schools. He also worked at
Lamar Tire in his spare time.
Sam loved his family and was very active in the
grand-children’s sports and other activities all
through their early and high school years. He and
his wife, Medora traveled to the mountains taking
the grandchildren on many trips tubing in Helen and
continued to travel all over Georgia until his health
began to fail.
Sam is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years,
Medora Darden Pelt; sons, Kip (Rhonda), Vann
(Stephanie), and daughter, Tammy Cochran (Adam);
seven grandchildren, Kendal Conklin (Michael), Ash
ley Jetter (Wesley), Parrish Pelt (Lindsey), Katie Mol-
trum (Jay), Leah Cochran (fiancee Tyler Treadwell),
Patrick Pelt (fiancee Lauren Remolde), and Courtney
Morris (Morgan); eight great-grandchildren; sister,
Margaret Tomberlin; and several nieces and nephews
also survive.
A funeral service for Mr. Samuel Lee Pelt was held
on Monday, November 22, 2021, in the sanctuary of
Rock Springs Church at 3:00 p.m. with Dr. Benny Tate
officiating. The family greeted friends and loved ones
on Sunday, November 21, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. until
7:00 p.m. at Williams-Westbury Funeral Home, and
again one hour prior to the service at Rock Springs.

Ivey Booker wins first place
Mid-Georgia Cattlemen’s Association 2021 hay contest first place winner in
grass baleage is fourth generation Walters Farms in Lamar County. Accepting

were announced at the Mid-Gergia Cattlemen’s Association’s 60th anniversary
celebration held in Thomaston.

RSCA choir competes
On November 18, Rock Springs Christian Academy Middle School Chorus competed in the GAPPS Middle School Cho
rus State Competition. They sang Oh, Won’t You Sit Down arranged by Wagner and Shule Aroon arranged by Schram. Their
65-member choir falls into the category of Large Ensemble where they placed first as the State Champions with superior rat
ings.
The choir director, Mr. David Bates, stated, “I am so proud of the Middle School choir. They have been working diligently for
the past two months to achieve this goal. This is a major stepping stone for the music program. On to the next goal!”

Bankston of Barnesville, GA are proud to announce
the birth of their son, William Vaughn Bankston, on
November 9, 2021, at Piedmont Newnan Hospital.
Liam, as fondly called, weighed nine pounds,
twelve ounces and was twenty inches long at birth.
Grandparents are William Arthur Bankston, Jr. and
Rhonda Bankston of Barnesville and Denise Eubanks
Neikirk and David Neikirk of Milner and Danny Ray
and Kathy Vaughn of Barnesville.

I was looking for my
church shoes buried
deep in my closet. Just
as hurried to get it done
and over with as I was.
Not even caring to look
in her spring-form pan
for debris before she
threw the cake in the
oven.
A piece of me died
right then and there. As
I watched others eating
away, adult and child
alike, I realized that I was
now different. I had just
consumed my Last Sup
per. I have not and will
not eat at pot luck to this
day for fear of whatever
unknown object will find
its way in my mouth. I
have a hard time accept
ing food from anyone I
have not done a thor
ough background check
on. And now, even if I do
go to church, I don’t even
worry about my khakis
being wrinkled because
apparently everyone is
taking shortcuts. Some
are just hidden under
cream cheese and choco
late.
