Commission handles zoning matters

The Lamar County
commission dealt with
three zoning matters at
its regular meeting Nov.
14. The moves followed
public hearings on the
proposals prior to the
regular meeting.
Christian Hardy got
aproval to rezone prop
erty on High Falls Road
from AR (agricultural-res
idential) to R-2 (residen
tial).
Tommy Moss got the
okay to rezone 1.76 acres
on VFW Road from R-3
(residential) to C-2 (com
mercial).
Greg Evans had his
unusal request granted
as well. He asked for land
at 545 Hwy. 41 South be
rezoned from M-l (manu
facturing) to AR (agricul
tural-residential).
In other action, the
commission:
•Heard from Beth
Pierce who read a letter
censuring commissioner
Nancy Thrash from the
Lamar County Republi
can Party
•Heard the first read
ing of an ordinance which
will lower the speed limit
on Skinners Bypass from
45 mph. to 35 mph.
•Reappointed multiple
members to the Barnes-
ville-Lamar County
Library Board. They are
Pam Bryan, Dianne Har
vey, Tyler Young, Octavia
Jackson, Tim Turner and
Linda Olivier.
•Approved a nearly
$100,000 expenditure to
scan and digitize probate
court records.
•Renewed multiple
alcohol licenses.
•Voted 3-1 to update
the personnel policy and
add two holidays. Com
missioner Jason Lovett
voted against that move.

told the city council at its
regular meeting Nov. 13.
Bunn made his re
marks following a gen
eral discussion on traffic
patterns, parking, speed
limits and the limited
manpower the depart
ment has.
“At some point Milner
is going to have to pull
the trigger and move to
a full-time force,” Bunn
said.
Council member Skip
Seda praised Bunn on
the efforts of his patch-
work crew. “1 want to
commend you on the
professionalism of your
force. They are incredibly
professional,” Seda said.
In other action, the
council:
•Adopted an ordi
nance increasing water
and sewer rates. The
council did not like the
idea but all agreed it was
a necessity.
•Tabled a minor sub
division request because
the applicant failed to
provide the proper pa
perwork.
•Approved the first
reading of an ordinance
that would see them join
a joint planning commis
sion with Barnesville and
the county.
•Voted 3-1 to approve
the general and water
fund budgets with coun
cilman Chris Eady cast
ing the lone no vote.
•Heard from a citizen
about ongoing problems
with Rudy Vaughn’s
‘event center’.
•Heard reports from
the library and city
administrator Tausha
Grose.

RULES AND REGULATIONS
1. There are to be no human Santa’s in the parade. (Blow-up or non-human Santa’s are permitted.)
2. All participants (including walkers), must be in constant motion and must maintain the pace of the parade.
At NO time will a vehicle or float slow down to a slower pace because of walkers that cannot keep up with
the parade pace. Adjust your walkers accordingly.
3. All bands/dancers must be appropriately uniformed and maintain the pace of the parade. No exceptions.
Please keep all dance routines and moves appropriate for family-friendly environment.
4. All entries must be decorated and have some type of operational lighting.
5. Children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult unless otherwise notified.
6. Absolutely no texting or phone usage during the parade. This is to ensure the safety of all participants involved.
7. There is to be no political campaigning during the parae.

The City of Barnesville and the County of Lamar, including its members, do not provide liability insurance for
the protection of anyone or any group who may participate in the parade. In consideration for participation in
the Christmas Parade, the individual or group does hereby release and forever discharge the City of Barnesville
and the County of Lamar of any claims and/or demands for loss, damage, or injury while participating in the
parade.

Rebuild Lamar has been hard at work for several years making needed repairs on homes
for needy citizens who cannot afford the repair work. The most recent project has been at the
Fredonia Church Road home of Brenda Adams.
