Election of Officers. \
j The following officers for the etlsulng j
i quat ter were elected by Star of Hope j
' lodge. No. 34 I. O. G. T., at this place,
at the regular meeting last, week, viz;
D. C. Hutton, W. C. T.; B. F. Herring,
W. V. T.r Colin Mcßae. R. S.; M. D.
Hughes, F. S.; Alex. Peterson, Treus.,
j Daniel Peterson, Chaplain; William C.
| Mcßae, M.; Fontnin Carswell I. G.;
|G. J. Stanford, O. G. These offi
i eers will be installed by Rev. A. H. Baze
| more, D. G. W. C. T., to-morrow night.
j Sashes are very largely imported, and
j are found in some guise on most of the i
cotton dresses. They are used in con
trasts of color that seem exaggerated to
plaiu tastes, such as blight scarlet satin
ribbons on dark blue, sateens, or somber
brown watered ribbon on plain pink
mull dresses. (Jody's Lady's Book.
Bounds made eutirley of ribbon loops
ire pretty trifles, but rather more costly ,
than they seem at a first glance, for the j
ribbon is remorselessly cut, and is sewn j
to the foundation regardless of quantity.
However, they may be made cool by
using a thin lining, and they ore not neur
as heavy its many varieties of straw.
Gody’s Lady’s Book.
Book Notice.
Goiikt'r Lady's Book for May opens
witli a pretty engraving entitled “Re
turning Home.” A quaint picture that
j causes a smile when we note the diseom
. fort canned to the party by a day’s
picnicking in the woods. The serial,
“A Coronet of Thorns, by J. V. Prich
ard, continues in interest. A bright
story entitled “Hastings)’ Retreat,” by
Euphremiu Kaye, shows various glimpses
lof character well drawn tip. The reader
is anxious to see how it will end, the
conclusion being promised in the next
1 issue. Several good short siorics appear
j iu the hook, among which is “Miss Den
ning’s Episode,” by Robert C. Meyers,
| “Sister Ann,” by luoChurchill, “Mary's
j Wedding,” by C. Leach, a Memorial
, day poem by Marion P. Wheeler, and
snorter poems by George Birdseye and
others. The colored fashion plate gives
a faithful iliustratiou of the new shades
to be adopted for spring costumes; the
numerous fashion pages giving plenty of
designs for making tip different fabrics
into Esater wardrolies. A pretty colored
work design for a tidy, after the popular
Mikado, aud nntnerons other illustra
tions, complete the Dumber, which can
not fail to please the severest critic.
