Farmers’ Clubs
Mu. Editor l have been absent
so ul your paper f«>r sometime, but if
vou will allow me space iu your columns,
I jslnvukl lik<* to say a few words iu re
gard to the Farmers Clubs. God “made
man iu his own image and likeness” -a
little lowti than the angels, and after
bp had done this lie gave him hia choice
a* to how he wanted to make his living.
Spine want to the mercantile hnsiuc-s,
acd others to other arduous occupations.
But 1 will not otuil to mention the graud
il l glorious work of the farmer which
:a the I'iickboue and lap root of the
world. The question is, how eau the
farmer b»*eome his owu meriliuui?,
Simply by making himself a member of
the Agricultural Glun which is rijht ut
borne, tiDd which is the best institution
tout man has ever ordained for his main
tenance (itrd support through life. There
is ut this fme three Wfubs in this county
—Spring Hill, LuDg'Pond, and Hamilton
Hill. The latter Agticultnral Club was
• organized at Hamilton Hill Church last
August, with six or seven members, and
now ban about seventeen names on its
: roll. The member* of this Club can
gr-t their guano for this year, cheaper,
by one third, than anyone else, if not
more than that, Bnd we are going to
work to each other’s advantage UDtil we
will he almost independent of the South
a- far as purcliasinggoods fr her iscon
cerm-d. And I will tell you how we are
going to do it. VYe will eleft one of our
• Club to take onr money and onr orders,
I once a year, and get our supplies for the
, next year, which will cost but a small
trifle, less than half their cost here. I
tellyon, farmers, that yon never will be
anything hut a laboring class for the un
godly, sinful men who price their goods
even four times their first cost in Phila
delphia, Boston, or some other city in
j the north or west, unless you join these
Clubs. Our Inst meeting was to-day, at
’ Mt. Fiflgah Church. The next will be
at Hamilton Hill Church where it was
| organized.
j Now, this that I write, is to tho pub
, lie, and not one individul only. We do
l not take anyone into onr Club who does
not make farming his chief occupation.
; Farming is the mainstay of Ihe world.
Not only does the merchant depend upon
the farmer for his support, hnt every
class in the world even the kings and
i landlords, who scorn the poor laboring
! man. has to look to the product of the
I field for their maintenance and support,
j Now, if you will take these facia into
I consideration, you will see that it is the
only way bv which thu farmer can ever
come out the low grounds of sorrow
which he now occupies. I would like
to say more, but for want of space, will
draw to a close.
