MRS. B. H. GRACE DIES
AT CEDAR CROSSING HOME
Mrs. Annie Mann Grace, wife of
Judge B. H. Grace, died Sunday af
ternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the family
home at Cedar Crossing, following a
long illness. Funeral services were
held Monday afternoon, being con
ducted by Rev. H N. Benton, pastor
of the Uvalda Methodist church, the
interment following at the family
burying ground.
Mrs. Grace.was a daughter of the
late Col. C. K. Mann and a memoer
of one of the prominent families of ■
old Tattnall ccunty. Besides her hus
band, she is survived by two sons,]
Henry Grace of Brunswick and James
Howell Grace of Cedar Crossing.
Sisters and brothers in this section
who survive her are Mrs. Ira Chester
of near Vidalia, Mrs. D. Payne Odom
of Cedar Crossing and Messrs. Mell,
Homer and James Me Mann.

FORMER VIDALIA PASTOR
DIES AT JONESBORO, N. C.
A message received by 'Mr. Claude
Christian Monday announced the death
at Jonesboro, N. C., Monday morning
at 2 o’clock of Dr. H. W. Williams,
formerly pastor of the Vidalia Bap
tist church. Death was due to heart
failure.
Dr. Williams was well known thru
out Georgia, having served patsorates
at Elberton and Commerce before he
came to Vidalia in 1917, and serving
the Vidalia church until November of
1920, when he resigned to accept a
call to Jonesboro. He was ’mown as
a great church builder and was one
j of the prime movers in launching the
! movement for a new church at Vidia
j lia, having contributed $l,lOO to the
building fund.
Dr. Williams was about 60 years of
age and is survived by his wife and
two sons, H. W. Williams, Jr., and
Charles Williams. Funeral services
and interment were held at Jones
boro Tuesday.

at the Vidalia Hospital.
Mrs. Cannie Fountain of Ailey vis
ited Mrs. M. H. Fountain last week
end.
Mrs. A. J. Collins of Lyons is the
guest of her daughter, Mrs. A. C.
Sacold, this week.
Mrs. I. C. Burroughs has been on
the sick list during the past several
days.
Mrs. S. Z. Simons was called to
Douglas on account of the illness of
relatives.
Miss Ada Burroughs has accepted
a position as book-keeper with the
Leader & Rosansky Co.

who has been at the hospital for treat
ment, left Saturday for her home.
Mr. nd Mrs. W. S. Boatright and
children of Forsyth are visiting the
family of Mr. J. R. Coombs.
Messrs. J. W. Dale and John N.
Patrick returned last Friday from a
motor trip t° points in the Carolinas.
Rev. and Mrs. O. O. Williams
had as their guest last week their
daughter, Mrs. Garrett, of Soperton.
Mr. and Mrs. Perry Blount of So
perton spent a few hours in the city
last week.
Mrs. Arthur Page, who has been at
the hospital for some time, will leave
the last of the week for her home in
Lyons.
Mrs. W. B. Haynes and daughter,
Erua, returned Tuesday from Valdos
ta, where they spent the-week-end
with lelatives and friends.

Mrs. Chester Shuman is making
splendid progress toward recovery fol
lowing a recent operation at the hos
pital, and was able to be moved to
her home Thursday.
Rev. J. E. Sampley, pasort of the
Vidalia Methodist church, has been
notified! by Bishop W. N. Ainsworth
of Macon that he will visit Vidalia
on Thursday, October 19th, and will
preach at the local church that night.
Mesdames Arthur Thompson, J. E
Meaders, Vann, Minton, W. H. Proc
tor and Miss Elizabeth Proctor of
Swainsboro were guests Tuesday of,
Mrs. Geo. S. Rountree and Miss
Emmie Roberts.
Mr. Z. P. Williams, who has just
completed a three-year enlistment in
Uncle Sam’s navy and received his
honorable discharge, is spending a few
days with his brother, Mr. Sam D.
Williams, near the city.
W. D. Clarke, the 9-year-old son of
Mr. D. Clarke of Cedar Crossing,
was operateil upon at the Vidalia Hos
pital Monday for fracture of the skull,
resulting six years ago when the lit
tle fellow was kicked by a mule. He
is recovering rapidly and it is believed
the operation will he successful.
Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Akcrman of
Macon spent Monday in the city.
Mr. Kkerman is chief counsel for the
M. D. & S. Railway and was called
here on business for this road. Mrs.
Akerman is state regent of the Daugh
ters of the American Revolution and
while here conferred with a numbe*
of Vidalia ladies with regard to the
organization of a D. A. R. chapter
here.

week from Albany, vvhre he attended
the State Veterinary Association, mo
toring 1 over with Dr. Mike Hurlemau

was well attended and the meetings

Mrs. J. R. Coombs spent several
days in Hawkinsville last week.
Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Mosley, Mr.
Wm. Mosley, front Jacksonville, and
Mrs. Davis of Rangor, Maine, were
guests of Mrs. J. R. Coombs on Fri
day of last! week.
M rs. H. D. Holloway, who has
been visiting her sister, Mrs. J. S.
Sutton, has returned to her home in
Tarpon Springs, Fla.
FORD ROADSTER STOLEN
FROM MEADOWS BUICK CO.
A Ford roadster was stolen from the
Meadows Buick Co. sometime Mon
day night. There is no clue to the
identity of the thieves.
Entrance to the building was af
fected through a rear window, bolts
which held the staple of the lock in
the front door being removed from the
inside to get the car out.

A wiM' cat howled dismally.
It was a windy, rainy night on the
Arizona desent.
Bebe Daniels jumped from her cot,
grabbed her 44 and sent a shot whist
ling from her tent in the camp where
sc nes were being made for “North of
the Rio Grande,” a new Paramount
picture to be shown at the Colonial
Theatre Saturday.
A tousled head peeped out from a
nearby cow-ptinchcr’s tent.
“What you all aiming to do? Shoot
Slim’s wild cat after he rode all the
way in to Mesa to fetch her? Reckon
you all better he careful how you han
dle that little, play-gun or you might
skeer that little pet kitten of Slim’s.’’
Following these remarks, the head
disappeared and Bebe returned to her
cot, a wiser lady concerning the hab
its of Arizona cow-punchers and their
animal pits.
