Mr. W. A. McNeil was appointed

A Suggestion.
It has been suggested to the Herald
that the young people of Wayeross get up
an amateur performance for the benefit
of the Brunswick sufferers. We think
the idea a good one and the Herald will
do all in its power to make such an en
tertainment a success. We cannot fur
nish much of the histronic talent but
wc can do a large amouut of blowing
and advertising. We could have a fine
conceit, charades, etc., etc. Who will
help push this matter? Write the Her
ald or come to see us in person. Bruns
wick will ueed more help than she has
yet in sight, and Wayeross must do her
part. Let Wayeross give an entertain

Mr. Gunn’s Report.
We call attention to the report of Ar
chitect Gunn iu another column in re
gard to the safe condition of the opera
house in the city. A rumor has existed
in Wayeross to the effect that the build

believed it there were some who had
doubts, Mr. Gunn has made a thorough
inspection of the building and his re

A Rumor.
There has been a sort of a rumor fly
ing around loose in tlie atmosphere to
the effect that our third party .friends
might bring out another horse upon the
eve of the election for treasurer and try
to run him in. We do not believe there
is any foundation in fact for such a
rumor, but think it well enough for the
organized democracy of Ware county to
watch its cork-. Eternal vigilence is
the price of party success. Failure to
attend the polls when there was appar-
antly no necessity for voting has brought
the democracy many a defeat. Let every'
democrat in Ware county come to the
polls next Tuesday and vote for the can
didate of his choice. It is a duty we
owe the party and ourselves.
Restitution.
According to tlie Savannah News,.
Secretary Carlisle received, the other day,
from New York from an unknown sender
$1,500 in cnrrency, which the sender
said was the balance of $20,000 which he
had paid into the treasury in reparation
for a theft of $10,000 from Jhe govern
ment of which he had been guilty during
the war. If everybody who stole money
from the government during the war
were to follow this fellow’s example, the
existing vacum in the treasury might
be filled and the surplus mount up to
something like the sum turned over to
President Harrison by Mr. Cleveland
four years and a half ago.
When the Republicans begin to make
restitution the democratic party is in
danger.

I strongly believe in fhe liberty of the
press, but when a reporter or editor will
so lower himself as to befoul the fair
name of Brunswick’s good women, then
he ought to be most emphatically sat on.
“Yes, sir,” maintained Codling, “it is
absolutely necesawy for tvaitaws to be
clean shaved. If not, with their full

aw waitaw from aw society man, faw in

“One might know the waiters by their
superior intelligence,” replied Miss
Ricketts.
I hope that a large crowd will turn
out to the band concert this week, so as
to show the boys that we appreciate
their pluck iu starting such a thing and
at the same time give them a “boost”
financially.

Atlanta for Brunswick.
It was “Atlanta for Brunswick” at
DeGivc’s Grand Opera house on Friday
evening last. Not in the history of the
eity has a theater been crowded with
such an audience—which literally pack
ed the great building from ground to
gallery.
It was Brunswick’s night, and a glo
rious night it was, both for Atlanta and
the stricken “city by the sea.”
Tlie people responded nobly to the
call of humanity, with that practical
sympathy which means help for the
helpless and which “blesses him that
gives and him that takes.”
The entertainment, in whieh the news
paper men were the principal actors, was
a crowning success; the audience was
delighted, Brunswick was benefited, and
Atlanta is better oft’ afterwards. We
had a good cause and a good time!—

Geo. P. Pollard Nominated.
At a meeting of the voters of the 2nd
ward, held at Council chamber Saturday
night, Mr. Geo. P. Pollard was nomi
nated to fill the vacancy on the board
of Aldermen, occasioned by tlie death of
Capt. E. H. Crawley. J. L. Crawley,
Esq., was chairman of the meeting and
Mr. Pollard’s name was presented by R*
C. Cannon, Esq. There was no opposition
to Mr. Pollard and he was nominated
by acclamation. The selection of Mr.
Pollard gives entire satisfaction through
out the city as well as in his own ward.
A Tale of Forty-fire Dollars.
A short time since a peddler named
Jake Davis, stopped with his wagon at
the home of Mr. Obediah Barber, a well
known citizen of this county, and who
lives about six miles from the city.
During his stay there the peddler’s wag*
was robbed of forty-five dollars.
The money being abstracted from a till
in the body of the wagon. Peddler Da
vis came to Wayeross without missing
tlio money and did not discover his loss
for several days. In the meantime Mr.
Barber came to the city and learned of
the peddler’s loss. He at once suspi*
cioned a negro who he had on his place,
and returning home sought an interview,
but the negro was gone. Mr. Barber
was not to be outdone however, and af
ter a long search found the thief, and
eventually succeeding in recovering all
the money. Returning now to Way*
Brown wood, Texas, suffered with diar- lcooss for the purpose *f giving the money
up to its rightful owner, he found the
peddler gone, and ail inquiries up to
this time have foiled to reveal his where
abouts. Mr. Barber informs the Herald
that he will hold the money until the
peddler can be found. This notice,
think, will have the effect of bringing
him to the front if he is still in the land.

Quarantine Against Waresboro Raised.
Mayor pro-tern, Andrew J. Miller,

there more than fifteen days. Our Bruns
