,Of Interest to Veterans.
We publish the following letter re
ceived to-day from Macon. It will
be ot Interest to tboae Confederate
Veterans who propose attending the
Louisville reunion.
R. A. Smith Camp 1S4, United
Confederate Veterans, Macon, Ga.,
April 20, 1905. At the last meeting
of R. A. Smith Camp No. 484, United
Confederate Veterans, after receiv
ing propositions from the different
railroads, the camp appointed a com
mittee of three, with the commander
as chairman, to arrange for trans
portation Macon to Louisville and
return, to attend the annual reunion
on June 14, 15 and 16, 1905. After
due consideration, the committee se
lected the Central of Georgia Rail
way In connection with the W. & A.
Railroad, N. C. & St. L. Railway and
1*. & N. Railroad, as the official
route of the camp, and a cordial in
vitation is extended to all veterans
-and their friends, to join them on
the trip.
It is expected that the coming re
union will be the largest in pofnt of
attendance, in the history of the or
ganization, and we are looking for
ward with enthusiasm to the hos
pitable welcome which will be ex
tended by the city of Louisville.
Arrangements have been made for
special train, for the use of the Vet
erans, Sons of Veterans and Daugh
ters of the Confederacy, and their
friends. This train will leave the
Union Station, Macon, at 4:26 p. in.,
Tuesday, June 13, going via Atlanta,
Chattanooga, Murfreesboro and Nash
ville, arriving at Louisville 9:o
o’clock Wednesday morning, In am
ple time for the opening exercises.
Arrangements will be made with
the L. & N. Railroad for a stopover
at the Mammoth Cave, In order that
those who desire may have an op
portunity to visit this great wond-
home. The people of Waycross stnd
vicinity should, and we do not doubt
that they will, subscribe liberally.
Twenty-five thousand dollars Is the
sum needed for the building. The
site, a beautiful one, has already
been donated by Judge Williams. Let
Waycross do her duty and the col
lege Is assurred. The associations
which Mr. Scruggs will visit are as
follows: Piedmont, Homervllle, New
Sunberry, Harmony and Smyrna.
This territory embraces Savannah,
Brunswick, Douglas, Baxley, Homer-
ville and Waycross. Outsiders will,
of course. be allowed to contribute
If they so desire, in fact, we will
need all the help we can get from
the outsiders ns well as the Inside.
Mr. Scruggs takes up the work de
termined to succeed and we can
scarcely doubt that he will. Let
everyone who favors this great nnd
necessary enterprise hold up his
hands. Talk for the Baptist college
at Waycross and work for it.
On the train we will have n com
missary car and sufficient number of
•coaches and sleeping cars to accom
modate the party.
The rate to the reunion is 1 cent
per mile in each direction, round trip
from Macon $11.15, and the sleeping
car rate Is $3.50 per double berth,
Tickets will be limited to leave
Louisville, returning, June 19, 1905,
except that by depositing tickets
with special agent and upon pay
ment of fee of 60 cents, an exten
sion of the final Umlt can be obtain
ed to a date not later than July 10,
1905.
In order that adequate sleeping
car arrangements can be made, it is
requested that those desiring berths
notify at once Mr. Jno. W. Blount,
traveling passenger agent, Macon,
Ga., who will cheerfully attend to
this matter, and furnish full informa
tion concerning schedules, rates,
etc. Mr. Blount will personally ac
company the train and look after
the comfort of the veterans on both
the going and return trip.
