. E. PARK PASSED AWAY AT HIS
ATLANTA HOME.
Atlanta, May S—Capt. Robert Em
ory Park, treasurer of the state of
Georgia for tbe past nine years, is
dead. He passed away Friday after
noon shortly after 2 o'clock in a priv
ate sanitarium In Atlanta, after a very
brief Illness. Wednesday night Cap
tain Park reached Atlanta from New
York, whither be had gone several
days before with his wife and daughter
and where be hal been taken 111 almlst
immediately after his arrival. His
condition was critical and he waa
rushed back to Atlanta on a litter, He
was taken from the depot to hospital
and Thursday afternoon an operation
was performed to stay the disastrous
work of the Internd malady that had
seized him.' But the operation was
without avail. It came too late. Capt.
Park struggled through Thursday night
aud Friday morning, succumbing at
Inst early Friday afternoon. He was
sixty-six years old. He was born In
(^Grange. Hardly had he finished
school when the war broke out, and
he-enlisted under, (hip Confederate col
ors. Captain Park served gallantly un
til he was woundn'd and captured. Af
