BY THE NAME, THAT OWLS ARE ALL NIGHTERS; THAT
MAY BE TRUE OF THE REAL BIRO, BUT THE ORDER
OF OWLS USE THE 3IR0 IN THE MORE ASTHETIC
SENSE—AS AN EMBLEM OF WISDOM—AS IT HA8
BEEN USED FROM TIME IMMEMORIAL. NOT AS A
SYMBOL OF REVELRY. THEY ALSO USE IT AS AN
EMBLEM OF VIGILANCE—A3 AN OWL CAN SEE IN THE
T ARK. SO THE OWL (MAN) Ml/ST BE EVER VIGILANT
o'THE NEEDS OF HI8 BROTHERS AND BE EVER
READY TO RESPOND; BE IT PAY OR NIGHT.
THE OWLS DO BELIEVE IN PLEASURE, THEY
PREACH THAT WE SHOULD LOOK ON THE BRIGHT
SIDE OF LIFE—NOT DWELL ON ITS GLOOMY A8PECTS.
THE TRUE OWL STANDS EVER READY TO SPEAK A
WORO OF CHEER TO THE SORROWFUL, OF COURAGE
TO THE FAINTING BROTHER—BELIEVES IN 8MILE8
INSTEAD OF FROWNS AND SAYS THERE ARE NONE
ALL, GOOD AND NONE ALL BAD, THAT WE ARE ALL-
ALL OF US GOOD AND BAD," DIFFERING IN THESE
RE8PECTS ONLY IN DEGREE.
IT 13 the PLAN OF THE ORDER TO USE ITS REV-
ENUES WHENEVER THEY EXCEED ITS EXPENSES,
IN BUILDING AND MAINTAINING THREE GREAT BE-
NEVOLENT IN u i’i I'.iNJ. THE FIRST CF THESE IS
INTENDED TO BE A HOME AND 8CH00L FOR THE
ORPHAN CHILDREN OF THE OWLS. THE SECOND IS
INTENDED TO BE A HOME FOR AGED AND INFIRM
MEMBERS OF THE ORDER. THE THIRD INSTITUTION
PLANNED IS TO BE A GENERAL HOSPITAL CONDUCTED
UPON THE MOST MODERN 8HENTIFIC LINES. THIS
LAST INSTITUTION IS INTENDED TO MAKE POSSIBLE
THE GIVING OF THE BEST MEDICAL AND SUROICAL
ATTENTION AND CARE IN DIFFICULT AND CAPITAL
CASES TO ALL MEMBERS O FTHE ORDER, EITHER AT
MINIMUM EXPENSE, OR AT NO EXPENSE AT ALL. IT
IS BELIEVED THE BUILDING OF 8UCH INSTITUTIONS
WILL OO MORE GOOD FOR MANKINO THAN WOULD
THE PAYMENT OP SALARIES AND THE FURNI8HING
OF POSITIONS FROM TIME TO TIME TO AMBITIOUS
MEN.

At a recent National Convention of Hospital Heads
In the City oi Washington, the point was raised
and emphasized that the use of bathtubs in hos
pitals is unsanitanr and that the only safe and
cleanly method of bathing is by means of the
Shower Bath. All thinking people realize the un-
cleanliness of bathing in stationary water that
becomes increasingly impure as the bath pro
gresses and the pores absorb back the body Im-
purities only temporarily removed. In striking con
trast to the old unsanitary method of tub j
bathing is the pare, refreshing bath with the f

There are cases in medical history
where patients have been apparently
brought back from death, even at the
moment of impending dissolution, by
a relative or a physician calling to
them imperatively, vehemently, to ro-
turn to life. But generally the vic
tim’s conviction that be cannot get
well and that be must die paralyzes
and destroys the disease-resisting pow-1

be fatal only because of the loss, of 1
faith and the patient’s conviction that
he cannot recover, * *
