INDEPENDENCE OF
THE PHILIPPINES
DESIRED BY THE
PEOPLE.
[^fraahlngton, March 27.—A ringing
appeal to the American CongrosH for
< the Immediate Independence of the
\ Philippine Islands Is made In resolu-
Fiona adopted by' tho Philippine Ah-
Inenibly. which have Just been pub
lished In the Congressional Record.
JgPresenting the resolutions to the
y BNjjse, Mpnuel N Quezon, resident
(commissioner frif^mthft Philippine** to
•the United 8tatdl. also submitted a lug people. Numbering only 1,600,000
of the natives >f the Island, as
{etill further proof of the desire of the
Filipinos for early Independence.
/ The day has now arrived,” declar
ed Mr. Quezon, “when P is absolute
ly essential to the happiness,
fare, and tranquility of the Filipino
people that a declaration regarding
their independence he at once made
by Congress. There was a time some
years ago when it wus said with some
show of justification that the demand
for Immediate independence was on
ly the rallying cry of a few ambitious
end misguided politicians. Today
cue who is any way familiar with the
events in the islands could fail to
realize that the Independence of their
country Is the most fervent and sa
cred deBlre of the whole Filipino peo
ple.
I am betraying no secret when I
assert that the unanimous opposition
of the Filipino peojdc to the sale of
their public or the so-called Friar
lends to American capitalists is main
ly the result of their fear that sain
course will in the end defeat their
cherished national ambition for in
dependence. We know and feel that
as soon as there Is invested In our
public lands a large amount of Amer
ican capital we must give up fore
(lie hope of being freed from the c
trol of the United States.”
r, Quezon expressed the belief of
Filipinos that the sugar trust
r big American concerns are pow
rful enough to Influence the United
States government to retain the Is
lands forever, on the pica of alleged
necessary protection for American
Interests.
‘It Is vitally essential to the future
elfare of the Filipino people that
natural wealth of their county he
properly conserved,” said the resi
dent commissioner, “and no dcsife to
mluoc in a day n false and ficticious
prosperity should he allowed to divert
this government from Its only Just
and honorable course. The Filipinos

There Is nothing new about the Idea
| of using sage for restoring the color
of the hair. Our great-grandmothers
kept their locks soft, dark and glossy
by using a “sage tea.” Whenever
their hair fell out or took on a dull,
faded or streaked appearance, they
made a brew of sage leaves and ap
plied It to their hair with wonderful
ly beneficial effect.
Nowadays we don't have to resort
to the old-time, tiresome method of
gathering the herbs and making the
brew. This Is done by skillful chem
ists better than we could do It our
selves, and all we have to do Is to call
for the ready-made product. Wyeth's

old-time scalp remedy.
The manufacturers of this remedy

funded If It falls to do exactly as
represented.

public at fifty cents a bottle and is

at the beginning of the last century,
they are now nearly 8,000,000, and at
the present rate of Increase we shall
0,000,000 of people within 100
years from now.
I shall not on this occasion take
the time of the House to demonstrate
that we have a right to be Indepen
dent and free. This is a self evident
proposition to every gentleman on
this floor. You cannot deny the very
principle which gave life and sup
port to your governmental Institu
tions. Neither shall I endeavor to
show that the Filipino people arc
now, and for some time have been,
fully prepared and equipped to as
sume and exercise the power and re-
vbllltlcn of national soverlgnty.
The memorial of tho Naclonalista par-
deals with this question at length
and Is a substantial exposition of the
accomplishments of the Filipinos in
public afTalrs. Congress should act,
ithout further delay, upon the peti
tion of the Filipino peole for free
