St. Louis,-April 13.—A heavy wind
storm, attaining tho velocity of a
tornado in some seotlons, nnd accom
panied by rain, hall and lightning,
swept over Western Missouri, Kan
sas and Oklahoma today, killing thir
teen persons, practically destroying
two towns, injuring almost’* hundred
persons, wrecking scores ot buildings
end putting almost every telephone-
ond telegraph wire In the territory
out ot commission.
St. Joseph, Mo., April 13.—Tho St.
Joseph and Grand Island depot and
box cars at Manvllle, Kas., were
blqwn over by a tornado this after
noon. A farmhouse also was wreck
ed and one child killed, acaordlng to
information received by the Grand
Island offices here* Telegraph and
telephone wires are down.
Topeka, Kns., April 13.—A tornado
traveling In a southeasterly direc
tion, destroyed the town of Whiting,
25 miles north of Topeka, late this
afternoon. Sixty houses were blown
down nnd thirty persons Injured. Men
