FATHER PRISONER
CHITTY AT -FUNERAL
From County Jail Accom
panied By Deputy
Sheriff
Savannah, Ga., Nov. 1.—This morn
ing J. G. Chltty, a Savannahlan, un
der arrest for having cashed a draft
on a Lake City, Fla., bank when it is
alleged he did not . have sufficient
funds therein to meet it was permit
ted to attend the funeral of his
(laugher, Mrs. Louis R. Walsh, who
died • here yesterday.
It was a sad day indeed for Mr.
9hltty. He was accompanied to the
home of his daughter and to the
grave at the cemetery by an officer
who saw that he had no opportunity
to escape, although Chitty made no
effort in that direction. He seemed
grateful to the police officers of tho
city for having granted him the priv
ilege of attending the funeral. An
officer arrived for Chitty today ahd
he will probably get away to the [27th and 30th,
Florida city with him tonight.
Mr3. Walsh has been an Invalid for
several months and recently her life
has been despaired of. The news of
her fathers arrest was kept from her
until Monday when some thoughtless
friend told her of it She almost
collapsed at the news and sank rap
idly until she died.
