MRS. VERMILYA MAY RECOVER;
IS BEING CLOSELY WATCHED
Chicago, Nov. 5.—Mrs. Louise Ver*
milya, accused of the murder by pois
on of Policeman Arthur Blsonette and
under investigation In connection with
the successive deaths of eight other
persons, today was pronounced prob
ably recovering after her attempt to
end her owif life by poison yesterday.
Energetic methods to counteract the
•effects of arsenic which Mrs. Vermilya
cunningly contrived to mingle with
her food in the presence of her guards
probably will be successful, her physi
cians say.
Since, the attempt at suicide Mrs.
'l^-railya has not been out of sight
or one or more of the guards and ev-
•cry article she touches is first examln
«d either by a detective or a trained
nurse.
Though in' a condition bordering
upon nervous collapse, the accused
woman was pronounced in fair physi
cal condition tonight. Mindful, how
ever, of the frequent relapses of her
alleged victim, Blsonette, ending In
the man’s death, Dr. Van Arsdale, who
Is In charge of the case, and who also
attedcied Blsonette, refused to say
positively that she would Recover.
