Tub Weather. —The present week
has been for the most part disagreeably
wet, and rather cool for editors and
other poor folks who do not keep large
o«riT,]ip« of wood laid up for a (I rainy
day.”
The present, and every spell of had
weather that comes, reminds pedestrians
of the great want of attention to our
sidewalks. Wc think those of the prin
cipal streets, at least should be liberally
besprinkled with sand, or something else
that will prevent their muddy condition
in wet weather.
Vai/jaale Additions.—Many val
uable additions have been made to our
populadon during the past few months,
among whom are men of such sterling
wcrrtii to any community as Rev. C. A
Crowell, Rev. Thcs. E. Langley, pastor
(f the Baptist Church here, and others
in this vicinity , Judge E. J. Harris;
Judge W. G. Parks, of the county
Court, and tn-uiy other valuable citi
z , ts —all of whom we trust will bo ben
efited by the change—in health and
every other respect —and that still many
c will •evnw'atc their example, and
take advantage of the thrift and cntei
prise of our gro»i''ir Ivtlc c ty.
The Right Fimpit—No.wiitsOard
j.ig the fact that many planters have
given up the search f.,r lab r rs as a
future" v o are giad to see that they are
» it sufficiently diseour ig and to abandon
their lands or sell them fur half price.
We see men who have beet, iti the habit
of'•i-uperiuteuding with gloved Land.-,”
with their own coats off, manning a
plow ; atd bear the young men and boys
say they are going to rehool, or going to
to enjoy themselves “when the crops are
lail by.” This is the right spiut, and
tho only one that will avail in those try
ing tine*. It will not do to wait for
e migration — 8) far as it if expected to
take the place of negro labor, it is a
humbug.
A Mural Communite —Wo profess
to have traveled somewhat more that) a
man who has not seen outside his na.
tive county ; but we must say that we
have never beeofoc acquainted with a
more moral community than that of
Dawson, or a people better acquainted
with the rules of good behavior. While
ihere are a few too lazy to leave home
on the Sabbath, and a few professional
loungers and “whittlers,” who persist
in their occupation around the bar-room
doors, on Sunday; yet our ministers
never have to ‘preach to emty pews,’ and
are less annoyed by that class of ohitty
chatty humans who vie with the preach
er in making a noise—talking and “snig
gering,” than most ministers. As to
drunkeness, we do not think thcro has
been a drunk man on our streets, sinee
Christmas—and very few then. Onr
council is not called together for the
trial of disorderly cases once a month.
Really, we do not believe there is an
other town of the same population in
the State that can boast of as much free
dom from imujorality as Dawson.

etitutional amendment are Connecticut,

ATTENTION* PLANTERS.
call the attentioa of tho
planters of South W. Ga., to the fact, )o
retail goods is entirely out ol the line of the
House that I represent. And will in all in
stai ocs retrain from taking any orders only
from regular dealers in Merchandise. It is
not the intention of the Uouse’to come in
competidon with regulivr dealers, and It will
by no nit ans facilitate tbe r lat ter* in pur
chasing at low rates by trading direct with
tbe Western markets, from Ihe fact that tho
enormous freight on small quantities of goods
and tiking into consideration the heavy loes
in weight and tbe risk in sbipmeut will over
ballance the small profits of dealers,
