The Indian War.,—The Indian war i which, for Some time pait, has theateo cd desolation iu our far-Western terri- 1 tory seems to Lave broken out at lest. The Beast— The latest on dll is that 13usj-Fittgcted Ru’ler is coining South, to teach us poor Rebs the path of duty. He first goes to bis pet city New Orleans. We can’t see what the j poor fool expects to accomplish unless ho imagines that the Southern people have another supply of silvirware.— We’ll contribute our two pewtor spoons towards paying him not to show Lis ugly mug in these parts. The Winilliville Celebration. It was our good fortune, on the 4th inst., Saturday last, to be present at the annual May festival of the Union Sabbath School of Smithville. Al though our stay was limbed, wc witness ed enough to commend the good people of that section, for the deep interest manifectcd in the all important work of the Sabbath School. We reached the depot at eleven o’clock, and proceeded to the church, which we found filled to its utmost ca pacity, and even the aisles erowdid nidi intent listeners. Wcentered in time to hear the concluding eloquent appeals of Maj. Ry lander. Then followed one of tic moat appro priate and interesting addresoe for chil dren that wc have listened to in many a day, in the characteristic style of II v Mr. Chaudcin. 11 is “tactic*" and “manual of aims” for the Sabbath School army, are complete, easily un derstood, and calculated to make good soldiers. Rev. 11. D. Moore, of Albany, wa« the next speaker. His was a combina ti nos eloquence and simplicity, diffi cult to excel Hi* faithful and beautiful niind-p icturc6 for the cncouragemcut of the youDg, will, we hope, prove to be “bread upon the waters,” anl add stars to his crown. Next came a “short and sweet” issue of eloquence from our genial fellow quilldrivet, Sweet, of the Albany Aries And last, (and somewhat less) came another one (f the -‘starving fraterni ty,” who had a respectful hearing, not withstanding the lateness of the hour and the close proximity of a sump tuous table. The school numbers some I*2o schol. ars, is apparently in tbor-ugh organi zatioD, and by their decorous behavior throughout the exorcises evinced the ut most efficiency of their clever Superiu teudents—Messrs Twitty and Harris. The generosity and goad taste of the people of Smithville displayed in the collation prepared for the large assem blage, cannot be 100 highly spoken of. Horrible Outrage. —The 22 Times gives the details of a horr bio out rage committed by negroes upon a fam ily named Peters, living on Dog R : ver ( at no great distance from Mobile. The brutes broke into tbs house at night, beat the father and sons until they were insensible, outraged the mother and daughter—the latter a girl twelve years of age—stole soma thirteun hundred dollars in gold and currency, and made their escape. Every effort is being made to capture the fiends and bring them to summary p unGhnieut. As before remarked, such outrages are of terribly frequent cecu ronee, and in most instances may be traced to the pernicious influence set to work among the black population- by bad white men who are trying to u«e that class for their own villaineus pur poses. Tasti them Around Wc take much pleasure in warning the public—rßpocially our cotempora rics of the pres* —says tho Miseissip pian, against Joseph flay dock, 11 Pino street, New York, and his master, Dr. Maggie!, who have been advertising for i about a year past in nearly every news in the South, without, wo have g iod reason to believe, paying their bills | Wc know them to boa couple of swind-1 lers and scoundrels, who impose upon ‘ the unsuspecting and trusting public, j not only by refusing to pay their adver tising accounts, but by tl >oding the c untry with their quack and utterly worthless nostrums. The Lu xemburg Question. — Queen 1 Victoria has written a letter to the King of Prussia in which she takes ground in favor of the recent and more moderate propositions of France in re gard to the disposition of the Gland Duchy of Luxemburg, art 1 advises Dim to accept a plan of compromise, to which it is said that Napok-ori is not unwilling to accede. The cable of the 28th brings the intelligence that the Prussian Government bas signified by telegraph its acceptance of the propo sition made by the queen for a gener al conference at London of the Great Powers, to settle the Luxemburg dis pute on the basis r.f the neutralization of the Grand Duchy, guaranteed by’ ail the Powers at the Conference.— They will meet in London on the 15th day of May, and in ttio nioautimo the Fortress of Luxemburg is to ho dis mantled. 1 wo men recently ran a horse race between Liberty and Alexandria. A decision has been given against Gen Mi Dowel in Cal foniia, which renders him liable to damages for im prisoning citizens of that State, on po litical grounds. Ho recently murdered Mr. Nunn, (as Lax already betn men tioned,) aud rubbed birn of about $2200. He was pursued for some time, aul finally, after being wounded, arrest ed.
