The Laboratory of the System.
The storar.ch is the laboratory of the
system, in which certain mysterious
■processes lire constantly goirg on. —
These result in the production of that
wonderful vivifying agent the blood
which, in a state of health rushes la*

the remotest parts of the system. —
But when the stomach is semi-paral
yzed by dyspepsia, blood manufacture
is carried on imperfectly, tho circula

system niff rs in consequence. Mine

The Art of jP.'olouging Life.
People generally desire long life
acd good health. Sicltuess and pie
mature death are almost always due
to violation of the laws that govern
our physical being, and of which the
masses tun igucruet. If men knew
better they would do better : but how
can they avoid sn evil that they know
run ol'r W Inin efforts ate ruadf> through
tho public scl.cols to give • ach child u
so-called toxiintiH English education
yet the children are pieiuittod to grow
up and enter upon tie responsible
duties of active life, profoundly igno
rant of the structure of ti err own
bodies, and tho lawsof physical being
upon which their health and lives da- \
pend. They aro sent to school anil
emulated with aiitktneuc, grammar,
and googinphy, by teucheis who.
in many instances, have never studied
physiology aud hygine. They are
taught to locate the mountains and
ttace tho livers of foreign countries
but are m ver taught to locate the vital
organs ami glands of their own bodies
or trace the virs, aitoties, and nerves
iu their various ramifications. They
ate injtiucted in the 11 w of the tidos
and the course ui the rowan currents,
and the philosophy of winds and
storms; nut they have no cor.ict con
ception of the relative effects upon
their health ol breathing ] ure or im
puie air, nor has 'their attention ever
been called to the importance of:
keeping their bodies clean and lipathy !
by regular bathing. The criminality
ol such neglect in teaching becomes j
aparent when wo consider that tho j
masses, iguorantly violn’ing the laws
