Removal.
All 1 . R. J. Anthony has removed
his goods to the store room formerly
occupied by Mr. D. C. Adams. lie is
receiving a heavy lot of tin-ware,
hardware, crockery, etc., which he
offers cheap for cash. Call on the
Parson—buy some of his goods and
see him smile.
New G oods! New Goods !
J. B. Crim is now receiving his
Fall Stock of Goods from New York)
which will be large and consist of al
most everything that will supply the
wants of both ladies and gentlemen,
cheap for cash. “Quick sales and
short profits” is his motto.
Fine. Cane.
On Tuesday last, Henry Harrell, a
worthy colored man who lives on
Mr. E. B. Bridges’ place, brought to
our office two stalks of sugar cane
which lie took from bis patch. It
was very fine—l 7 fully matured
joints—and seven feet high. Henry
is a hard working man, and deserves
encouragement from his white
friends. Is there a colored man in
the county who can beat his cane?
If so, let him trot it in.
Still Coming— -New Goods !
Messrs. Rogers A Laing are still re
ceiving their Fall and W inter stock
of clothing and dry goods generally,
direct from New York. In a few
days their stock will be complete and
consist of everything usually kept
in a first-class stock of general mer
chandise. They are offering extra
inducements —their goods must be
sold. Call on them before buying.
Wild Land Sales.
Quite a large crowd was in town
last Tuesday to greet Sheriff Christie
as he mounted the box to sell the
wild lands advertised last month in
tiie Journal. .V number of the lots
advertised were not sold as affida
vits were filed alleging that the tax
es had been regularly paid. As an
ticipated, there was same spirited
bidding. The purchaser’s tide to
these wild lands becomes perfect at
the expiration of a year; and if the
land is redeemed by the original own
er within that time the purchaser
gets back his money with twenty per
cent, premium thereon.

lay Your Subscription.
Cotton is coming in rapidly and
bringing a good price. We hope our
subscribi rs, some of whom we have
indulged for a long time, will now
come tip and settle. 1\ e l ave not
called for money during the dull
summer months, but now, that a
bountiful crop lias been made and is
being gathered and sold, we hope
all will come up and pay the small
amount due us.
Mean ! Mean l 31 can !
We have often chronicled very
mean little acts which occurred in
our city, but now have the meanest
of all to record. Last i tiesday nigh,,
while Mr. Walter Jordan was wit
nessing the dramatic performance at
die college, some unknown person
cut his bridle and saddle to pieces
and turned his horse loose. There
mav be some fun in such depraving
acts, but we must say that the guilty
person is meaner than the man who
kicked acorns out of the pa h of a
blind pig In future, we trust our
people will keep a close watch and
catch all such low principled scroun
drels.

Local Editor Dawson Journal,
Di:\k Sir: Last week I had occa
sion to visit your town and purchase seme
dry goods. One of your “bright and ac
commodating cle.ks” waited upon me in his
shirt sleeves. It’s an ' nsuU for a c,erk t 0
wait upon a lady in his shirt sleeves; don ’*
VOU think SO? *ISSaIUI.
Well, Miss Sallie, we think it right for
clerks to wait upon lady customers wi th

The Entertainments.
As stated in last week’s issue. Pro
tection Fire Company of our city
gave two public entertainments at
College Chapel last Tuesday and
W ednesdav evenings. The object of
these entertainments was to raise
funds with which to uniform and
otherwise equip our company for ac
tive service in case ot fire. The price
of admission was fixed at t wen tv-five
cents, and the chapel was not “pack
ed by sun-set” as lias heretofore been
the custom at free shows. However,
a good audience was present each
night.
Some of the best histrionic talent
of our city appeared upon the stage,
and the selections were most excel
lent. That beautiful and touching
drama, “East-Lyime,” together with
mirth provoking comedies, were ad
mirably rendered. For over three
hours the delighted spectators were
entertained by the rendition of these
selections, and as the curtain fell at
the close of each scene the audience
evinced their thorough appreciation
of the acting of the several characters.
We have not the space at this late
hour (Wednesday night) to criticise
severally the acting of the various
characters, for all agree that in the
main it was quite good.
Runaways.
Last Saturday was a good day for
runaways. Judge Sasser and his
spirited horsedecided to “play circus.’’
The Judge got in his buggy, whip
ped his horse, which ran down Main
Street. At the South-east corner of
public square, the horse made a sud
den turn and the Judge alighted up
on his head and received several se
vere bruises. This part of the circus
was declared closed for the day.
Later in the afternoon, Mr. H. T.
Jordan’s horse became frightened and
ran through the streets, bursting to
pieces the wood work around the lit
tle well in front of Griffin’s store,
and playing several other miraculous
wonders until he ran into Dir. J. H
Cannon’s buggy and smashed the
two fore wheels to pieces. Our little
devil was in the last buggy, and went
up in the air and came down in the
mud head-foremost. He loudly de
clared his part of the show ended for
all time to come. A large crowd
witnessed the circus, all of whom
pronounced it a complete success.
The big show having closed, (he wri
ter, with a complimentary ticket, vis*
ited the “sole show,” which consisted
of a first class dog fight The heav
iest looser was Mr. Camion, who paid
seven dollars to have his buggy re
paired. Can’t some other friend
“bring in another horse” next Satur
day. ,
Handle Your Cotton Carefully.
Pack your cotton carefully. We advise
all of our readers who are engaged in rais
ing cotton to handle it carefully. Do not mix
two grades in picking. Put on good bag
ging and fasten your ties well. The time
was when cotton Was worth so much and ia
such good demaud that it would sell, uo
matter how it was rut up; hut that time has
passed. Cotton is not like it was. The roan
who wants to get the best price, for his cot
ton must be careful in handling it and use
good bagging and tics. Times ha- e changed
and you must change with them or suffer
loss.
Agricultural Society.
The next regular meeting of the Terrell
County Agricultural Society will be held at
the Court-house in Dawson, on next Satur
day, the Tth iuslant, at 10 o’clock, a. m. It
is very important that all the members of
said society be present on that day, as all
arrangements for the fair will be made. The
committees appointed at the last meeting are
urgently requested to r port on that day.
Among the greatest auxiliaries to the de
velopment of a country, a chief agency is
found in an annual fair. Nothing contributes
more to the social and physical strength of
a community, than a rivalry invited by these
periods. The exhibits of products of the sod
of live stock, and of articles of manuficture,
are all calculated to encourage investments I
in labor and genius. The success of one
man in any particular branch of industry is
sure to impel another man to greater cxer- .
tion, and society becomes the beneficiary,— i
Expeiience, which is by far the best teacher,
has shown that in sections of the country ■
where these fairs have been held for any
length of time, the farms are more prodne- j
tire, ihe farmers more prosperous, the breeus !
of stock finer, mechanics more active, and ;
every branch ot industry and art in better j
condition, than in the sections where such
annual meetings ate not held.
The Stepping Stone to Health.
The acquisition ot vital energy is the 'tep
ping 6tone to health. When t.c system
tacks vitality, the vaiious organs fligin
their dutv, become chronically ir regular, and
disease is eventually instituted- To pre
vent this unhappy s'ate of things, the debili
tated system should be built up by the use j
of that inimitable tonic, llostetter’3 Stom
ach Sitters which invigorates the digestive
organs, and insures the thcrougn cocveision
of food into blood ot a nourishing quality,
from whence every muscle, neiveaud fiber
acquire unwonted supplies of vigor, and the
whole ev-'tem experiences the beneficial ef
fect. Appetite returns, the system is refresh
ed by healthful slumber, the nerves grow
strong and claim, the despondence begot
ten of chronic indigestion and an uncertain
state of health disappears, and that aallow
appearance of the skin peculiar to habitual
invalids, and persons deficient in vital ener
gy, is replaced by a more beco ming tinge.
Communicated.
Mmsits. Editors: —There is a sec
tion of country north-eas'of your city
which seems to hum been -lighted this
year. We ha ve suffered for rain all
tho time, and,* only for occasional
Mowers would have made an entire
failure. We, however, will make a
fair corn crop. Our cotton is not more
than a half crop, and in many ins’an
ces, almost a complete tail tire, and all ex
cept those, ns Bill Arp says, who have
side-shows to their circuses, ate dead
broke. We hope our creditors will
not press us, as it is not our fault.

Good Digestion.
“Give us this day our daily bread ’
and good medicine to digest it, is both
reverent and human. The human
stomach and liver are fruitful sources
of life’s comforts; or, disordered and
diseased, they tingle misery along
every notvo and through evety artery.
The man or woman with yood diyi-ilion
seen beauty as they walk, and overcome
obstacles they meet in the rotate of
life, where the dyspeptic sees only
gloom and stumbles and gtowls at
every irnaginaiy object, The world
still needo two or three new kinds of
medicine before death can be noifcct
ly abolished ; but that many lives have
Imen prolonged, end many suffoiers
from Liver disease, Dispepsia and
Headache, have been cured Mekueil’s
llei’atini;, is no longer a doubt, it
cures Headache in twenty minutes,
and there ia no question hut what it is
tiie most wonderful discovery yet made
in medical science. Those afflicted
with Biliousness and Liver Complaint
shriild use Meuukll’s Hfpatine.
