f-dr.” The reporter, wb««e detectiv
ability had thus far failed to produce
th r raiseing record*, was considera
bly pie; god at the easier task assign
ed him. He was not long in finding
out that Tilro Morris’ favorite haum
was Ramspeck’t tea store, at the cor
ner of Line and Peachtree streets.—
The reporter was rather anxious to
interview Mr. Morris, and at once
proceeded to Raraspeck’s, and asked
f«r him.
“There he is by the stove,’’ re
marked one of the elerks in answ -i
to the query, pointing to a cleanly
shaved young man, who was quin. >
toasting hi« shins at the stove.
The reporter had nothing special to
conceal, and unhesitatingly a*ke<l l-r
one of the books advertised. Mr.
Morris smiled, and asked, as he gave
the scribe a piercing look :
“Do you want to write this tiling
Up.”
“Write it up!” asked tbereportr
in astonishment. “Ain’t the tiling
all right
“Oh, yes,” was the response, “oniy
we don’t sell the book direct. W e
.. always send it by m il.”
“Well, really I see no reason lor
being so strict. However, hare is
the money, send the book air, wh\
you please, so I get it,” and with
tiiat the reporter handed over a d ; v« r
half dollar and departed. For seve
ral days he watched the maill»*x for
the package “securely sealed liom
observation.” One day there com-
through the mail a neat little puck-
age which the reporter caught up
and jammed into his pock« t, «" Hint
it might remain “secure from obser
vation.” He took it and went off to
a quiet corner by himself, broke the
geai and took out the book It wa
a neat little book with a cloth bound
baek, and pale red edges. The re-
.porter’s eyes were whetted for soiut;-
[ihing rich, and hastily turning to
’the title page, he read with astonish
Hient:
“The New Testament of our Lord
and Savior Jesus Christ: translated
from the original Greek, and with
the former translations diiligently
compared and carefully revised.—
New York American Bible Society.”
The reporter was amazed. He
Could not belieye his own eyes. “A
blind, even to the title page,” h«-
thought. Then he turned to the first
chupter of Matthew. That appeared
to be all right. By calling on the
agent of the American Bjble Society
be learned that the retail price of the
beok was five cents, and that a mon
ey lass individual could get ene for
^asking. He did not push the
'«/»ystigation further that day, but
'psequently discovered that he was
•/ff the only person who had paid
' yVe cent* for the book and forty-five
ceuts f r the experience. There it a
publisher of a certain paper whe was
asked to insert the advertisement.—
He demanded first to see a copy of
the book, and after some delay Ben-
. son’s “Fifteen Year* in Hell” was
sent to him. The young man oer-
t.ainly fu'fills his promise, for «ny
Jli'sa, married or single, who answers
