HE IS DEAD!
ALEXANDER HAMTTjTmN STEPHENS
I s Dead!
From the movin'ains to the sea comes
a wail of sorrow from the people, every
city and almost every town within the
limits of the State is to- day draped in
the black habiliments of mourning— and
far away from the place where, oold and
still, lies Georgia’s great dead, the
people step with soft tread an bowed
heads—Death has stricken one near and
dear to the great public heart! With
bated breath they whisper, “//e is

Mr, Editor: It affords us pleas
ure to give your live and sprightly
paper a few items from Bulloch.—
We attended the justicc'6 court of the
46 district on last Saturday. A
goodly number of legal gentleman
was present. Messrs, Potter and
Slater of the local Bar, Col. J. L.
Singleton of the Sylvania Bar, and
Col. R. R. Norman, of Scarboro, and
last, but by no means least, the elo^
quent and silver tongued orator, Col.
John D. Ashton, of the Waynesboro
Bar. Col. Ashton has many friends
and numerous admirers in this
county. We heard many express
themselves highly pleased to once
more see him in the county where
he was admitted to the bar. The
