Resignation Sent in.
Col. J. 11. Mackenzie has sent
his resignation of the agency of the
depot at this place to headquarters,
and it will doubtless lie accepted,
and Col. Mackenzie relieved from
the duties of the office. Col. Mac
kenzie lias been in the employment
of tiie Central Railroad Company
since lS(i7,aiul 12 years of that time
lie lias been agent at Ibis depot.—
During all the long course of bus
iness connection between Col.
Mackenzie and tin* railroad com
pany no error of any importance
has occurred in ids accounts—cer
tainly none which could not he
traced out and corrected—and Ik*
now retires of his own volition, with
tin* good will and fricnsiiip of both

understand that Mr. 1). C. Hlount,
who lias been Col. Mackenzie's
clerk for several years past in the
office, has made application for tlu*
place—and lie well deserves it.—
Mr. Hlount understands every mi
nute detail of the business, is a
neat practical book-keeper, and on
his books does not appear a single
hint or error of his making for the
whole time he lias been clerk at the
depot, and he is worthy of all trust.

remarkable colored men of the age.

Pierce, and was educated by him,
and is said to he a natural orator.—
We have heard several of our citi
zens express an intention to hear

—On Saturday there was a game
of base hall played between tlu*
Tallulah's of the (Kith district, and
tlu* Lightfoots of the (Wth. The
game resulted in a score of Jl'i for
the Tallulah’s and JJ2 for the Light-
foots. Tlu* Talulah’s gave a barbe
cue and dance after the game, and
ail report the day as pleasantly
spent as any one could wish. Way
nesboro was well represented at the
dance, and all say the (Kith neigh
borhood knows how to make tilings
enjoyable.
— Mr. ('. A. Gray returned from
his summer trip to Saratoga on
Thursday night. Meeting him on
tlu* street, we were astonished to
sec* how great a change a few weeks
vacation and relaxation from busi
ness could make in one’s appear
ance. Charlie is looking right well,
and informed us that he had gained
considerable flesh. This simply
proves that “all work and no play
makes Jack a dull hoy.” \Y*c con

—We learn that Air. Marshall has
signed ids position of operator in

white man who was hoarding at
Deputy Sheriff Zorn’s county hotel,
