The official semi-annual re-union of the Traffic and passenger
department of the A. B. & A. Railway, which on previous occasions
has been confined to the immediate officials connected with the
road, this year will include prominent railroad men and others for
the territory traversed by tre road. ‘The special train, which will
brin%ge visitors to the city will arrive Wednesday afternoon 3:30
and wj 1 bring about seventy five railway men to thecity. Arrangc
ments*thave been made to entertain the visitors with an auto ride
through the county and a banquet in the evening at the Lee-Grant
hotel. These meetings are planned for the purpose of better zac
quainting, the officials with the conditions of the territory which
the road serves and to encourage a closer co-operation of the
people with the officers of the road. A numberof localpeople have
been invited to attend the gathering and t 6 meet the visitors with
autos to show them the fertile lands of Ben Hill county. Among
the out of towns visitors expected are:

or the ‘‘short route” from Macon to Jacksonville, which was refcrredl
by Georgia Commissioners Anderson and Howell to the directors o'f‘
the Dixie'Highway association, is to be selected as the official eastern

ThRICE-A-WEEK
made a personal inspection of both proposed branches.
This plan was agreed upon at a meeting heldat the Ansley hot«]
in Atlanta, Sunday and Monday, March 20, was fixed as the date when
the entire bogrd will lcave Macon by automobile upon its tour of in
spection. The board will go to Jacksonville by one route and return
to Micon by the other. The detaiis of the inspection tour will be fully
and definitely &rranged later. .
TWO ROUTES IN GEORGIA :
Under the rules of the Dixie Highway association the two com
missioners of each state through whica the highway passes have the
right to decide what route the highway shall take across their respec
tive states. Failing to agree, the question is put up to the directors
of the association. ' :
- “Inthe case of Georgia it was decided that there 'should be two
routes between Macon and Jocksonville—an eastern and a western

l Commissioners W. T. Anderson, of Macon and Clark Howell of
iAtl:mm, decided that the western route should go via Macon; Ameri
"cm, Albany, Thomasville, Tallahassee to Jacksonville and this has
| been formally established at the western route. This is the route over
‘which the Dixie highway tour passed last fall.
Commissioners Anderson and Howell, how:ver, failed to agree
lupon il}e eastern route.
Mr. Anderson favored what is known as the “short route” run
ning from Macon, via Fitzgerald and Waycross to Jacksonville.
Mr. Howell favored what is known as the oid Capital route, run
ning from Macon via Milledgeville. Sandersv’lle, Liouisville, Savannah
and Bruaswick to Jacksonville, :
Failing to agree, Mr. Anderscn and Mr. Howell referred the mat
ter to the board of directors of the Dixie Highway association.
CONFERENCE HELD SUNDAY
Pursuant to reaching a means of coming to an agreement in the
hyard of directors, a conference was held in Atlanta Sunday between
Chmmissioners Anderson and Howell, M. M. Allison of Chattanooga,
president of the Dixie Highway association, and Richard Hardy; of
Chattanooga. a director of the association. ;
The result of this conference was the decision to hold a tour of
inspection over both of the proposed routes batween Maecon and Jack~

All twenty-one of the directors of the association will be asked to
go- upon this tour of inspection and it is expected that praeticaliy all
of them will accepr. This will mean a tour whose personnel will be
composed of prominent men from the following states:
Michigan, Illinois, Obio, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georéi&
and Florida. '
