TEMPTATION
1 There’s a lake outside my window
that is laud'dng at the sky
1
I And from the cliffs along the coast
the swift-winged swallows fry;
The sky is blue this morning and the
sun in tempting too,
But 1 am at my table with a lot of
work to do.
I I know the fish are biting for I saw
Paul Strateburg come
With a -string of bass he'd taken from
this region of the Thumb,
' And off yonder in the distance i can
see a boat or two,
But a fellow’ can’t go a fishing with a
lot of w’ork to do.
I
There’s a pine woods nearby singing
now its softest melodies.
And 1 catch the faintest humming of
their music on the breeze;
I could spend the day exploring na
ture’s wonders ever new,
i •
But instead I’m at my table w’ith a
lot of work to do.
Should the- good Lord in the future
ever look at me and ask
That all important question; “Was 1
faithful to my task?’’
I shail answer, one glad summer in a
place He’d built for play,
I’d a lot of work before We, and J
didn’t run away.

W. M S., UNION BAPTIST
CHURCH, SAREPTA ASS’N
The year has been one of progress
for the \\J. M. S. of Union Baptist
church under the leadership of Miss
Clara Chandler, as president. Wc
have worked with the determination
to reach the. Standard of Excellence
set by the Southern Baptist W. M.
U., and now at the close of the Astfo
ciational year, find that we have
failed in only one of the tejx points—
that, of meeting our apportionment
in the 75-million campaign*-. At the
beginning of this campaign we pledg
ed $2,312.50 to the fund. About OS
per cent of the whole amount half
been paid—that is 85 per cent of
tho, amount already due.
To summarize the year’s work
- briefly:—
Meetings: Twelve regular session*,
fur business, devotional am) mission
ja.y program? have been held. Movt
j these were brief, held at the
j church after preaching services ok
Second Saturdays;. Twice we mat at
The home of our President for an al
, to moon meeting, in order that more
i time might be given for discussion.
The special subjects for these rneet
; ings were, “Personal Service in it*
various phases,” and “How can we
interest more women of our church
in the W. M. S.?” Delightful r*-
I freshnients were served by the hosM
ess. Fellowship in the work wav
strengthened by these social hours..
The special seasons of prayer have
Leon observed—usually by the indi
viduals in each home uniting in pray
er at a certain hour each day of tho
week of prayer. Avery helpful pro
gram on “prayer” was rendered a.
tile all day meeting held with Mrs.
A. B. (handler in January.
Study Besides the brief reviews
of programs in the Index, a reading
course in the book, “The Call of the
South,” has been completed.
Membership—We still *hoild all the
members wo had at the beginning
of tho voar and have added three rev
members.
Personal Service —The activitie*
along this line are too numerous to
enumerate. However n few figure*
will serve to show that while giving
our prayers and money for forcigt
missions, we have also been working
at home:
Visits to the sick 9$
Bibles distributed 48
Baptist Leaflets JOB 2
Garments to poor 77
Hours nursing . tjyfe
A box of canned goods was sent
to the Orphans Home; help was giv
e 1 two g rls studying to be misaifb.
ries in one of our Preparatory School
Help has been given to families in
distress, as in cases of fire. One new
society was organized.
We quote these activities, hoping
; that others may become interested,
arid join us in the work of the Wo
man’s Missionary Society!.
At the last meeting of the year
plans weie discussed for work for
;the coming year. Cards of invita
tion will be sent to invite other wr>.
| men wh(l are members of our church
;to our meetings. We hope that mi.v
may espond and that our iu liber*
may grow so that -we may try out ibe
