By virtue of an order from the
Court of Ordinary of said County,
will be sold at public outcry, on the
first Tuesday in October, 1924, at
the court house door in said county,
between the legal hours of sale, the
following tract of land:—
One hundred and nine acres known
as the home place on the Carlton-
Comer public road and adjoining the
old Fork Church Cemetery lot, lands
of J, D. Long, W. N. Johnson and
others. This land, one hundred and
six acres of it, deeded to J. W.
Thornton by J. D. Wynn, Dec. 27th,
1877, and plat to same is attached
to deed. The remaining three acres
known as the old Fork Church lot
deeded by the Deacons of said church
to J. W. Thornton, Dec. sth, 1894,
making a total of 109 acres in ail.
This is the home place whereon J.
W. Thornton l'esided at the time of
his death.
Said land sold as the property of
J. W. Thornton, deceased, for the
purpose of paying debts and distribu
tion among the heirs at law.
Terms of said sale being 25 per
cent cash on day of sale and balance

ty purposes, at this time proceeded
to levy the county tax of Madison
county for the year 1924, as is here
in Stated below. Madison County
Tax Levy Year 1924.
The County Tax digest for tho
year 1924, shows the aggregate of
property given in for taxation to be
$3,048,498.00 an increase of
$171,027.00, a very small increase
over last year. And while the Coun
ty has paid all indebtedness to the
present time, it is evident that the
Couny cannot be run on a less a
mount another year than it has been
run the present year.
Therefore it is ordered that the
present years tax levy for County
purposes be fixed at (12 twelve
mills or. one dollar or (12) twelve
dollars on the onfe thousand dollars
on all property subject to taxation.
The amount appearing on the tax di
gest being 53, 048,495. 00, and the
*munt of the levy at 12 mills u;
($36,581.87) Thirty Six Thousand
Five Hundred Eighty Oik- and 87-IQO
dollars for county purposes. All mon
ey less the commissions o? the Tax
Collector and Tax Receiver of this
fund to be paid into the Bank of
Dtnielsville, the County Depository.
Also a levy of (5) five mills on
the one dollars worth of property or
(5) five dollars on the one thousand
dollars worth of property, the total
I amount being (f 15,242.49) Fifteen

thousand two hundred forty-two and
49-100 dollars, county wide school
tax. This to be paid to the County
School Superintendent.
The tax collector is ordered also
to collect all legal local school dis
trict tax as the same has been pre
sented to him for collection by the
proper legal school authorities and
this to be paid to the proper legal
school authorities who are authorized
by law to receive the amount due
each local school district.
No amount is placed to that part
of levy No. 2, under head of bonds
and borrowed money, because suffi
cient funds outside of county tax
will come in to pay all the claims
against the County under this head.

It is hereby ordered that the fore
going Tax Levy together with this
order be entered on the Commission
er’s minutes and that it be posted
and published as required by law.
And that the tax collector be fur
nished with a copy of this levy and
that he proceed at once to collect
on all property legally placed on the
tax digest and also on ail property
not on the digest at the same rate
per cent, or as the law directs.
