Miss Gooch is a charming young
lady and wdiile teaching in Madison
County Schools won many friends by
her attractive personality who wish
her a success in life.

After a short wedding trip Mr.
and Mrs. Cheney will be at home on
Whitefoord Ave. to the delight of

GEORGIA-MERCER GAME OPENS
THE FOOTBALL SEASON IN
ATHENS ON SEPT. 27
The University of Georgia foot
ball team opens the 1924 season on
Sanford Field in Athens Saturday,
September 27th, against the Mercer
Bears. Both teams are said to have
unusually splendid teams this fall
and this game promises to be the
best opening game ever played in
Athens.
Mercer has never defeated the
University on the gridiron and the
“Bears,” the new name for the
Baptist athletic teams, are deter
mined to accomplish if possible thus
year that which no other of their
college teams has done over a period
of SO years.
But three varsity games will be
played in Athens this fall. On the
27th, next Saturday, Mercer plays
there ami on October 4th the Univer
sity of South Carolina plays on San
ford Field. This is a Southern Con
ference team. On November Ist,
Tennessee plays there in the ‘‘Home
coming” game of the season
The Mercer ar.d South Carolina
games will be called at 3:30 o'clock.
